Xiaomi in the summer began to optimize advertising in the MIUI shell , and now it is completely going to turn it off. Today, the director of products and the head of the MIUI Experience division announced on Weibo social network that the developers are preparing the Ad Switch function.
It will allow users to turn off ads on their smartphone. Unfortunately, how this will work is still unclear, because advertising banners bring Xiaomi almost 10% of the total revenue, and with such a function, the indicator will definitely decrease. Perhaps the manufacturer has found another way to make money. In any case, users will benefit from this.
The function is still at the testing stage and it is planned to add it in the next major MIUI update. Most likely, we are talking about MIUI 11. According to rumors, the new shell will be shown on September 24 at the presentation of Xiaomi Mi Mix 4.
Xiaomi had also said that it is planning to make use of algorithms which can improve the advertisement reach rate and also make sure that the ad that users see are relevant to their interests.
While the biggest source of revenue for the Xiaomi continues to be the smartphone business, the software and internet services segment of the company accounted for just 9.7% of the total revenue. This represents a marginal growth for the company compared to 9.1% a year before.
