Xiaomi has been thinking about IP-certified smartphones for some time now. While its main competitors have water-resistant smartphones, the Chinese brand has a flagship in the market that is only splash-resistant. The insiders of different Chinese companies say that Xiaomi is already working on what would be his first Rugged Smartphone. Of course, Xiaomi’s resistant phone could be very different from what you’re thinking, nothing like the beast launches like CAT or Nomu.
According to the latest rumors coming from the Asian continent, in 2018, Xiaomi should launch a rugged smartphone with resistance to water, dust, and shock thanks to a high durability chassis. We have prepared some somewhat crazy images but we think that Xiaomi could opt for a somewhat different release, very similar to what LG did this year.
Some time ago, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun; He claimed that water-resistant phones lose protection against water as the smartphone deteriorates and, this protection, increases manufacturing costs. Will Xiaomi fans be willing to pay 20 or 30% for having a smartphone with this resistance?
Xiaomi commented more than a year ago that launching a rugged smartphone would mean increasing the price of manufacturing and selling but seeing the margin that the company has against other competitors and seeing how the figures are going to be in 2017, it is as likely as 2018 anime. LG, Samsung, Apple, Sony, Motorola, etc. All have something in common, a smartphone with water resistance. Some enjoy IP67 protection and other protection IP68 (suitable for the mobile to withstand the dives well).
One of the few differences of the Xiaomi Mi 6 with high ranges like those of Samsung or Apple is the water resistance, maybe that’s why Xiaomi should consider improving the Mi series or the Mi Mix series with this feature. If you have missed the review of the Mi 6 here you have it. Most likely, Xiaomi’s first rugged phone will hit the market in mid-2018 and that would mean it is already brewing.
At this point, we just have to wait for information from Xiaomi, who should launch his first Rugged Smartphone in the first half of 2018.
