Xiaomi does not stop launching new smartphones to the market, as it continuously registers patents with interesting, but above all, curious smartphone designs. In this case, he has repeated it with a new patent that shows us a completely unusual design of folding smartphone with up to five selfie cameras.
The Vivo NEX 3 has a wide dual pop-up camera and we have seen similar cameras and smaller companies. We had never seen a fivefold camera in such a mechanism until now. The patent was submitted to CNIPA (National Intellectual Property Administration of China), and several sketches have been filed as part of it.
The sketches give us a good look at the device from all sides except the back when it is open. The device folds out like the Huawei Mate X, which means that when folded, the screen is on the front and back. It is quite interesting when the left side and the right side are not uniform. On the left side, the phone is thicker than the right section. Only the display and the back cover are rolled to the right. The five pop-up cameras in the center – when folded.
The cameras will be used for both front and rear shooting. Therefore, if you want to take selfies you have to fold the cellphone and turn the cameras towards you. The sketches show that the device will have really thin bezels with no notches on the screen.
The patent appears to have been submitted on August 20, it was approved and published on Friday. This is not the first patent for a foldable smartphone from Xiaomi, but it is the most bizarre. Rumors had it that the Xiaomi would unveil its first foldable phone by the end of the year. We look forward to the developments – the company will also unveil the highly anticipated Mi MIX 4 by the end of 2019.
