Xiaomi has just announced in India two new devices, the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite. Although they do not reach the high range, the new models stand out for their camera for selfies. They offer a 16MP front sensor with an LED light to capture dark self-portraits. Both are quite similar and only differ in the processor, RAM, and internal storage capacity. They offer an identical design, although the Lite is a bit lighter. Both the smartphones are Amazon Exclusive and will be available starting November 8. The smartphones will hit offline retail stores in the coming days.
The dual-SIM (Nano) supporting Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Y1 Lite runs MIUI9 based on Android Nougat 7.1.2 and sports a 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection on top. It is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 processor, clubbed with 3GB RAM and Adreno 505 GPU.
The new smartphone includes 32GB of inbuilt storage. However, users can expand the storage space using a microSD card. Selfie lovers get a 16MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture, 76.4-degree wide angle sensor and a dedicated flash along with the Beautify feature. There is a 13MP rear camera with PDAF and f/2.2 aperture.
Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS and an infrared port. Also available is a standard micro USB port for charging and data transfers. The made-in-India Xiaomi Redmi Y1 also has a fingerprint sensor at the back and comes in the Gold and Dark Grey color variant. There is an infrared sensor included as well.
Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite has the same display as the Redmi Y1. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, clubbed with 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt storage. The smartphone is backed by a 3080mAh battery and supports a microSD card (up to 128GB) like the Redmi Y1. There is a 13MP camera as well.
The New Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite will start selling in some foreign markets as early as November 8, at a price of INR 6,999 (108.33USD), just 2,400 crowns for a basic Lite model with 2GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. The more equipped Y1 comes at INR 8999 (139.28USD), about 3,000 crowns (3GB + 32GB) and INR 10,999 (170.24USD) respectively, about 3,700 crowns (4GB+ 64GB). The choice will be from several color variants.
