When we are looking for a product which offers great quality of the money we can’t ignore what Xiaomi has to offer. This is where this company does a great job. It can be easily compared to top brands like Samsung, Sony, LG, both in the mobile phone market and the TV market as well. This company definitely offers great value for the money you pay for their products.
Xiaomi Mi TV – The things we liked
The sleek design of the Mi TV is simply amazing. With the thickness of only 4.9mm it is definitely one of the thinnest TVs on the market today. The main idea regarding the design of this TV was to place all the internals in the base which makes it considerably thicker, but at the same time it improves the design as well. Another thing worth mentioning about the design is the brushed metal back accompanied with a dark blue frame. It definitely makes this TV stand out in terms of design and build quality.
Considering the price range you may expect a lower quality of the display, but luckily this is not the case here. The TV comes with a 10-bit 4K Samsung-made VA display and it can easily manage 4K at 60Hz. The panel is HDR10 compatible and is specially calibrated by Xiaomi. However, if you want to tweak the display colors on your own you can easily do that from the settings. Of course, the quality is not the same as with Sony TVs, but when you realize that Sony is six times more expensive, it is easy to neglect the difference. If you like playing games on your TV or watching HD Blu-ray videos you will notice the advantage and quality of 4K HDR.
As for the connections, there are three HDMI ports, two USB ports (2.0 and 3.0), Ethernet port, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. The Amlogic T968 chipset at 1.8GHz, 2GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage are pretty impressive.
Maybe you think the RAM may be a problem here but it’s more than enough to easily navigate the interface. The interface is very well designed and one of the things we liked the most are the customized content recommendations based on your viewing history. And another thing worth mentioning which most people will find useful is the universal search feature.
Xiaomi Mi TV – The things we didn’t like
Although there are many great sides of the Xiaomi Mi TV, there are some things we didn’t like. For example, there is no Netflix, Prime Video or Youtube. Well, Youtube can be installed as an app, but it is not that easy to use, plus you won’t be able to play 4K videos with it.
Another thing some people will find disappointing is the absence of a 3.5mm jack. However, thanks to the technology today and the increasing quality of wireless headphones you will find the Bluetooth connection option to be a decent replacement. You won’t notice the difference between wired headphones and a headset with low latency for watching TV. Everything works perfectly well.
It seems that the main goal for Xiaomi was to boost the user experience when pairing the DHT box with the TV. It is just amazing, and they definitely did a great job there. Also, if you would like to stream from Netflix you can do it using Chromecast which works perfectly well.
Xiaomi Mi TV – Final Thoughts
If you are looking to buy a budget TV which has a great panel then the Xiaomi Mi TV is the real deal. The great design and build quality are the first things that will make you think about buying this TV for your living room or bedroom. The panel is definitely of high quality and one of the best panels in this category so there is no mistake in investing in it. The absence of streaming services like Netflix and Prime video and others is not a problem anymore because Chromecast works perfectly fine to get the job done. Another thing worth mentioning is that if you are into gaming, you will truly enjoy the 4K HDR gaming experience. And with a good set of wireless headphones we can say that you will have a great product for all your needs.
