At the end of 2018, the first information about phones with holes in the display appeared, and now we have the first representatives of this solution on the market, eg Honor View 20. It seems that Xiaomi will also prepare a phone with a camera in-screen, but according to his own idea.
On January 29, 2019, the Beijing Xiaomi Mobile Software project was patented in the global WIPO database, the World Intellectual Property Organization. The patented application consists of 24 illustrations of various models of Xiaomi smartphones. Four of them have been presented on graphics prepared by letsgodigital.org.
All of them represent the Xiaomi frameless phone with a high screen to front panel ratio. The frames are narrow, and the cameras are hidden in the holes on two sides of the screen. Depending on the illustrations, they look slightly different, but this is the main assumption of the published patent. According to the source, there is also a model in which the “receiver” is located under the screen – most probably it is referred to as the camera’s matrix.
It is not yet known whether in a short time we will see a Xiaomi phone in which this solution will be used. The Mi MIX series is famous for frame-lessness, the last representative of which is a sliding model with a dual selfie camera. Is punching a hole in the screen a step backward in the evolution of phones? I think that this solution is not particularly aesthetic unless the notch will actually be in the corner and will not force an orange increase in the size of the notification bar. Perhaps Xiaomi will apply this to another model, e.g. Mi Note 4.
As far as we know, Xiaomi will be present at MWC 2019 at the end of February, where the company will also reveal more information about its folded smartphone. Perhaps the Chinese will show something interesting then, some new flagship.
