I don’t know if you have a dash camera in your car, but I must propose to you to get one! Why so? In case of emergency you will have evidence of what happened. Apart from that, you will be able to record your road trip in case of an excursion. I guess you must have seen hundreds of video on Youtube, showing what their Dash camera has recorded, to them or others. For that case, for me not for others, I started searching to find a good but cheap dash camera for my car. Of course what I was searching, I found at at Xiaomi, with they latest dash camera that they released, the Xiaomi 70 Minutes Smart WiFi Car DVR. Searching around, I found the camera on Flash Sales on Gearbest, so I got it from there at a very low price. Just for the record, the Flash Sales continues at Gearbest…
Xiaomi 70 Minutes Smart WiFi Car DVR came to me with the post, without having to pay anything at the customs. After opening the protective package that had form Gearbest, so it wont break, I came across a black box.
On the side of the box you can see the name of the dash camera
while at the bottom, you can find a sticker with technical data about the Xiaomi Dash camera and the QR code needed in order to download the app that comes with it.
Opening the box, you come across the Xiaomi Dash camera, a cable for power, a sticker, a manual in Chinese and the car charger. The sticker you will need it when you will place the camera on the front windshield of the car. First you place the sticker and on it you place the camera, in order to hold on the glass better.
The dimensions of the camera are 10.00 x 5.50 x 3.20 cm, and is cylindrical. To some it might remind you a cigar! On the left you will see the power button and on the right you will see a micro-USB slot for charging and a slot to place in the external SD card. The external SD card can be up to 64GB and is preferred to be Class 10. The Xiaomi Dash camera has a wide len of 130°. It can record video at 1920 x 1080 @30 FPS using Codec H.264. The len is a SONY IMX323 at 2 Mp, with F/2.2.
Xiaomi 70 Minutes Smart WiFi Car DVR features a vibration sensor, which through the settings of the app can be adjusted to very sensitive or normal. My personal recommendation is to leave it at normal, because with every bump of the road, you will hear your camera speaking to you. Xiaomi Dash camera holds a long cable of 3.5 meters, to connect it with the car charger and give power to your camera. Nevertheless, the Xiaomi Dash camera has and a battery of it’s own, which is of 240mAh and can keep the camera alive for some time.
The camera can be connected with your mobile or tablet through the app that I mentioned above and through the WiFi connection of the 2.4GHz that the Xiaomi Dash camera has. In order to connect to the camera, you search a wifi network with the name 70mai_d01_XXXX. The password that will ask you for the first time, is 12345678.
The Xiaomi Dash camera can record video of 1 min long. Unfortunately, this cannot be changed, at least for now. On the side, where the power button is, you will notice a light around it, which changes from blue to red or green, according to what the camera does. In general, red means problem, green means ok and blue the camera is busy doing something or waiting for something.
The camera can work either with the power from the car or from a powerbank.
Xiaomi Dash camera can stand under the hot sun or extreme cold. It is manufactured in a such way to support from -20 C up to 60 Celsius degrees!
The camera speaks and understands Chinese. A user at 4pda.ru, anatoliy_t, managed to translate the firmware and made the camera to speak in English, but you still must speak to it in Chinese if you want to use the voice control that supports. So if you want to make your Xiaomi Dash camera to speak in English, you can either register at 4pda.ru, if you speak Russian or go to iTechNews.gr, where you can also find it and read everything in English.
The app needed for controlling the Xiaomi Dash camera, you can download it either reading the QR code found on the bottom of the box or you can use my link here: 70迈记录仪. The version of the app found at Mi store at the moment is 1.0.5. You can find the app and at Google playstore, but there is much older (1.0.1).
You can check here and a unboxing video that I have made
Xiaomi 70 Minutes Smart WiFi Car DVR is a very good car camera, small, compact and at a very low price. As I told you, I got it from Gearbest, where you can also get it at a very low price, because is at Flash Sales. So for 39.99$, the camera can be yours! Don’t loose this opportunity!
