Among the next major events of Apple certainly plays an exceptional role the WWDC 2018, historical (there are those who attended for 30 years …) conference dedicated to the world of developers, but that in recent years has also captured the attention of users, due to the numerous presentations of the company. Last year it was precisely on this occasion that Apple unveiled HomePod, iMac Pro, the improvements to Siri, new multitasking features, the 10.5-inch iPad Pro and new features for iOS. Here’s what to expect from WWDC 2018.
Let’s take a look at Apple’s current product line, not including the iPhone and Apple Watch. Apple Watch may be updated in September. And, predict what new products will be released for each series.
macOS 10.14, iOS 12, TV OS 12 and watchOS 5
Apple has used WWDC opportunities to show developers and the world the next version of its operating system, and this year is still in accordance with this practice.
It is not yet clear what the new version is. Previously there were rumors that these updates will improve the existing version launched last year. However, given that Apple’s new macOS system named High Sierra released at last year’s WWDC Developer Conference was an upgrade to Sierra in the previous year, whether Apple will continue to release a new version of the operating system this year will inevitably leave room for imagination in the industry.
However, be careful with your old application. According to Apple, 32-bit applications will be affected, and in the worst case, they may not work at all.
MacBook Pro
Following the 2015 MacBook Pro, Apple launched the 2016 MacBook Pro at the end of the year. In 2017 WWDC less than a year later, Apple once again refreshed the lineup. It has been a year now, so it is time for this product to be released.
The update may be relatively modest, except that the configured CPU and GPU are slightly better. What Apple did at 2018 WWDC may coincide with the school’s “opening school” season.
iPad Pro
A large number of documents from overseas regulatory agencies show that there are new iOS devices coming soon. In addition, the product’s last update occurred a year ago, so the upgrade of the iPad Pro lineup seems to have time.
Time is moving on. In addition to some hardware advantages, the sixth generation iPad in 2018 will be very close to the 2017 iPad Pro product lineup. It may be time to configure the iPad Pro based on the new A11 processor.
MacBook
More than a year has passed since the current version was introduced, and Intel’s new processor can provide faster speeds with the same price, power, and power consumption, so the MacBook’s timing seems to have matured.
MacBook Air
Apple has not done anything on the MacBook Air for a long time. In 2017, Apple made a silent upgrade to the MacBook Air, slightly improving some of its parameters, but that’s it.
There are rumors that the MacBook Air will be upgraded to Retina Display, but considering that the MacBook already has a similar product, and Apple has been working on the product’s slimming, such rumors do not seem to be true.
iMac 4K and iMac 5K
If we look at the annual upgrade cycle, it is time for the product to be upgraded. Also, the back-to-school season is approaching, and it seems wise to advance a little time earlier. In addition, there are faster new chips that can be used.
However, some people think that Apple’s chip speed in the iMac 4K may not be much faster, and in the iMac, 5K select the i9 six-core processor.
iMac Pro
The iMac Pro was actually released only about seven months ago and was configured with an advanced processor that fixed a backdoor vulnerability in the Mac product lineup. However, there are no new processors available for the iMac Pro, so no major updates are expected at this time.
Mac Pro
Earlier this year, Apple stated that the Mac Pro is a 2019 product. However, given that WWDC’s historical concern has been software, this statement may not be realized at all.
Apple Pro monitor
The Apple Pro display may not be so sure in 2019 that Apple wants to use this product for the Apple brand “Pro” lineup.
Mac mini
The last update of this product has been a few years away from now, and the return to school season is coming soon, but the product form is out of date. Apple executives said that the Mac mini is very important, but Apple will definitely not follow the original path.
Unknown Products
WWDC is not a hardware conference, but the 2017 WWDC has become an unexpected hardware feast that has not been seen in many years. Apple HomePod does not actually need annual hardware updates unless Apple wants to launch smaller and cheaper products. Although we may see HomePod upgrade via Siri’s software, it’s still too early to see HomePod’s hardware expansion.
In addition, rumors about the iPhone Se 2 continue to emerge, people are currently concerned about the 2018 iPhone product lineup. However, compared with the past five years, there have been far fewer rumors about the series so far this year. Currently, except for a questionable report about a base ARM’s MacOS device in the early stages of evaluation, there seems to be nothing surprising and new about Apple’s behind-the-scenes aspect, at least for WWDC 2018.
