The flagships of the Vivo X30 series were only introduced in December last year, but the Chinese company is already planning to unveil the successor. The Vivo X50 Series is expected to come in different versions, the release date will be June 1st.
Vivo skips the X40, presumably because the number four is considered an unlucky number in Asia. The device will support 5G and put a lot of emphasis on the camera. The gimbal camera of the Apex 2020 concept phone is probably in use here. This is indicated by a short video that the company has shared via its Weibo account.
There is no real confirmation for this gimbal function, but the video suggests such a feature very clearly. A gimbal is a mechanical device that keeps cameras stable and thus compensates for movements.
This is a form of image stabilization that enables more fluid shots than purely optical and electronic image stabilization. It would be the first time that a gimbal is installed directly in a smartphone, so it remains to be seen how well this technology works if it has been miniaturized.
The Vivo X50 is said to have a very large main sensor, which is probably in an elongated rectangular camera base. The lenses offer focal lengths between 16 and 135 mm KB equivalent, and up to 10x digital zoom is also possible.
There will most likely be a punch hole for the selfie camera in the front, but there are no further details yet. The predecessor X30 used an Exynos 990 from Samsung as the chipset. Vivo could work with the South Koreans again on this new flagship.
