In the past few days, we discussed the UleFone Armor 17 Pro, a well-built rugged phone that originates from UleFone. This rugged phone, with its 108MP camera, night-vision sensor, 120Hz 1080P display, and magnetic-attach wireless charging, impressed us. Even when considered as a regular phone, these configurations remain impressive. Earlier today, UleFone introduced a more powerful rugged model, the Power Armor 18T. This model features a more robust chipset, a brand-new microscope camera, a thermal sensor, and other enhancements, making it a remarkable addition to the rugged phone lineup.
For those of you confused about the differences between the latest Armor 17 Pro and the Power Armor 18T, our reviews aim to clarify the distinctions.
Unboxing
Let’s start by examining the contents of the phone package. The package includes a tempered glassscreen protector and various instructions detailing how to use the phone. These instructions consist of a comprehensive user manual, a guide illustrating multi-functions like underwater camera and glove mode, and another instructing users on the step-by-step usage of the thermal imaging camera. We appreciate UleFone’s dedication to providing a thorough user experience.
Design
The Power Armor 18T exhibits a more rugged appearance compared to the Armor 17 Pro. Due to its sturdier armor and larger battery, the Power Armor 18T is thicker and heavier. The protective film highlights its distinctive features, including the 108MP main camera, thermal camera, and Dimensity 5G chipset. Flip it over, and its shield evokes the look of armored fighting vehicles—reliable and wild simultaneously. The back cover is entirely covered in rubber, secured by a circle of screws, with the phone’s sides featuring a metal frame matching the camera module’s color. Despite its complexity, the overall design exudes a strong sense of style.
Camera
The camera combination on the Power Armor 18T is the most powerful and intriguing we’ve encountered on a rugged phone. The triple-lens setup, led by a 108MP main camera, stands out even when compared to regular flagships. The 108MP sensor, previously found only in some mid-range and high-end models, supports 9-in-1 pixel binning, capturing ample light with impressive noise control. Sample shots exhibit vibrant colors and good contrast.
The other two lenses include a super microscope lens and a thermal camera featuring a FLIR Lepton 3.5 Sensor. The thermal sensor, powered by FLIR, doubles as a night vision device in the field, providing additional safety. The super micro-lens boasts a fixed focus, allowing users to place it directly on the subject’s surface for close-up shots. The ring of fill light around the lens ensures well-illuminated subjects, even when ambient light is blocked by the phone.
Durability
The Power Armor 18T excels in water and dust resistance, boasting an IP68 and IP69K rating, along with Military Standard 810G certification. This ruggedness ensures the phone can withstand drops and crashes on all faces and corners. In addition to its robust build, the Power Armor 18T incorporates practical features for field workers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Dual-frequency navigation systems enhance accuracy, supporting multiple navigation systems such as Glonass, Galileo, BeiDou, and QZSS. The thermal camera doubles as a night vision device, providing an added layer of safety in outdoor environments.
Display
The 120Hz 1080P LCD panel on the Power Armor 18T matches the Armor 17 Pro, offering a visual experience uncommon in rugged models. The Corning Gorilla Glass covering the screen enhances durability, making it resistant to damage and scratches.
Performance
Powered by the Dimensity 900 5G chipset, the Power Armor 18T outperforms most rugged models. The integrated 5G module provides a faster connection, and its efficient power consumption extends battery life while delivering optimal performance. With a generous 12GB RAM, 256GB ROM, and support for TF card storage expansion, the 18T offers impressive performance.
The 9600mAh large battery capacity, coupled with 66W fast charging, sets a new standard among rugged phones. Additionally, it retains the 15W wireless charging support from the Armor 17 Pro.
Interesting Accessories
The Power Armor 18T features an expandable interface for connecting modules. While the available modules are currently limited, the endoscope camera stands out as an interesting accessory. It can inspect drains, pipes, wires, or hard-to-reach engine and suspension parts. We anticipate more expandable modules to further enhance the Power Armor 18T’s versatility.
In conclusion, the UleFone Power Armor 18T stands out as the most powerful rugged phone we’ve encountered. Its impeccable hardware, coupled with clean and uncluttered software, makes it a compelling choice.
