Announced in Mobile World Congress Americas held in San Francisco in mid September 2017, it was the first time Ulefone presented a physic unit (Prototype) of their new Ulefone MIX, which is in fact a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 contender. You could think there’s no compare here because both price tag, you are correct but there’s two real contenders, that even share the same SoC from Mediatek; Umidigi Crystal, Leagoo Kiika Mix and Bluboo S1.
Design
As you can see, the Ulefone Mix has a very similar design to the Mi Mix design and from its launch got a good acceptance. This phone, in particular, has a screen ratio of 90.2% and houses a screen of 5.5 inches, so, in terms of numbers, we are in front of quite similar models. Like this rival, we have three bezel less body and the front camera at the bottom, next to the fingerprint reader. Another element inspired from Mi Mix are “the golden ring”, gold coated look alike that protect back dual cameras.
Hardware
This smartphone is powered by an octa-core Mediatek MT6750T processor, 4GB of RAM and the Mali T860MP2 video accelerator. With this set up you make sure it will manage any modern game you want to play and for the next two year it will also be enough. Is nice to see that manufactures slowly are making 64Gb user memory space as the new standard. But, if you concern about getting out of space, don’t worry, there is in the device a MicroSD-card slot, for 100 percent relieving the user from problems with a lack of memory.
The 5.5″ IPS screen at 1280×720 pixels looks organic and it’s hard to make a claim. The brightness and contrast settings are high for the average price segment, and the overall detailization of the image is at a high level.
High-qualitative photos are given by the rear and front Sony 13 + 5 megapixel photo modules. Thanks to this arrange of cameras the Mix gives you near DSRL experience when you take portrait photos, enjoy bokeh effect from those pictures taken from professional photographers.
The autonomy of the gadget exceeds 7-8 hours of active screen time due to the use of a 3300 mAh battery and the economical Android Nougat. Also a fast charging function technology is embedded.
The device also supports LTE, OTG, dual band Wi-Fi b/g/N and BT 4.1. Thus, it fully meets modern standards, but this achievement is not enough to win the title of a hit since it needs a wide range of 3G/4G band coverage. Another piece or hardware included is the AW8737s audio chip decoder, this processor gives the Ulefone Mix a audiophile grade.
Review
Unfortunately, the novelty is unlikely to become a bestseller. A design does not offer anything new, innovative. A similar style concept, including small screen bezels, a fingerprint scanner on the front panel, a curved glass of the IPS-panel, a dual camera, we have seen repeatedly, as mention before, in its contenders Umidigi Crystal and Leagoo Kiikawith. However with a slightly bigger battery, 4Gb RAM, less demanding screen resolution and stock Android Nougat the Ulefone Mix is the true winner.
Conclusion
We’re already mention all the features that put Ulefone Mix above the other Mix impersonators there’s only one thing to mention, its price tag.
