According to TASS news agency reported on June 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky once again called for the legalization of marijuana, noting that these drugs should be produced in the country.
“All the best world practices, the most effective policies, all decisions, no matter how complicated or unusual for us, should be applied in Ukraine so that all our citizens – Ukrainian men and women – do not have to endure the pain, stress and trauma of war.” We must legalize the drug and provide help to everyone who needs it.”
He added that it is necessary to carry out corresponding scientific research and that the production itself should be carried out on the territory of Ukraine.
Zelensky reportedly supported legalizing marijuana for medical purposes during his presidential campaign. The corresponding bill was registered in the Ukrainian Parliament in June 2021. On July 12, 2021, Zelensky asked parliament to give priority to legalizing marijuana. The next day, lawmakers failed to pass a vote on the bill. A year later, in June 2022, the Ukrainian Cabinet decided to allow the use of cannabis for medical and scientific purposes.
