The Health Care Executive of Ireland (HSE) has issued a warning to the public not to use two single-use e-cigarette products from e-cigarette brand McKesse because they contain excessive levels of nicotine. HSE has removed both products from retail shelves and issued a recall notice to consumers.
It is reported that the two products are disposable e-cigarettes from McKesse MK BAR 7000, which are available in Blue & Razz Ice and Green Apple flavors. These products contain more than the legal limit of 20mg/ml of nicotine.
The Environmental Health Service of the Healthcare Executive and the National Tobacco Control Office have submitted an alert to the European Safety Portal, the EU’s rapid alert system for hazardous non-food products, the second alert submitted to the EU by the Environmental Health Service in recent weeks.
Dr Maurice Mulcahy, HSE’s regional chief environmental health officer, said: “I must remind manufacturers and importers of e-cigarettes and vaping fluids that they have a responsibility to ensure they fully comply with all legislative requirements.”
Anyone who has purchased these products is advised to stop using them and return them to the store where they were purchased. Retailers have been instructed to post recall notices in stores and online, including on retail websites and social media. Stores are also required to provide the Health Care Executive Board with detailed information on the supplier traceability of relevant products.
Dr Maurice Mulcahy reminded manufacturers and importers of the legal obligation to “give the Healthcare Executive adequate advance notice of their intention to sell their products on the Irish market through the Common European entry portal”. “In addition, they are reminded that they assume responsibility for the quality and safety of their products while they are on the market and used under normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions.”
McKesse did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
