According to the latest news from the industry chain, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 series will all use A14 processors, which are based on TSMC’s 5nm process, and later its trial production will begin early in 2020, and by the 2nd quarter of 2020 Mass production.
It was previously reported that this year Apple will make all 5G phones equipped with the Snapdragon X55 baseband, which can better save the costs. Although it is all X55 basebands, Apple will only support Sub- 6GHz or synchronously supports Sub-6GHz and mmWave (millimeter wave).
It is reported that TSMC 5nm has entered the trial production stage and entered mass production in the first half of 2020. Apple and Huawei Hisilicon are the first two major customers. Apple is optimistic that the iPhone 12 supporting 5G which will drive strong replacement demand for iPhone 7/8 and other old model users.
The market is optimistic that shipments will look at more than 100 million units. Equipment manufacturers estimate that Apple has already contracted two-thirds of TSMC. 5nm capacity, mass production will begin at the end of the second quarter of 2020.
It has been previously reported that the yield of TSMC’s 5nm has climbed to 50%. Mass production is expected as soon as the first quarter of next year, with an initial monthly production capacity of 50,000 pieces, and then it will gradually increase to 70,000 to 80,000 pieces. The first batch of 5nm consumer products currently disclosed include Apple A14, Hisilicon Kirin 1000 series, etc. It is said that they have been verified in September.
According to TSMC’s official data, compared to 7nm (the first generation of DUV), the new 5nm chip based on the Cortex A72 core can provide 1.8 times the logic density, increase the speed by 15%, or reduce the power consumption by 30%. The SRAM of the same process is also a Very good and reduced area.
A previous report by Guo Mingyu showed that in the 2020 new 5G iPhone, the 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch versions provide dual rear cameras, while the other 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch versions have triple rear cameras and ToF lens.
