Murat Emir, deputy director of Turkey’s Health Protection Center, said that although the country bans the import of e-cigarettes, e-cigarettes are sold on various websites. At the same time, Murat Emir also submitted a written question to the Turkish Grand National Assembly, which the Ministry of Commerce must answer.
Murat Emir asked, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Commerce expressly banned the entry of electronic cigarettes, but why can tolerate electronic cigarettes in the shopping website not open sale? Why is advertising and customs clearance tolerated on dozens of websites?
Murat Emir said that the import and sale of e-cigarettes, which are banned in Turkey from 2020, and all necessary materials must be openly sold on shopping websites. The only preventive measures taken by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Commerce were advertisements and circulars, which they believed could solve the problem. But now that e-cigarette products are within reach, they are not checking and they are not taking responsibility.
Murat Emir believes that the relevant authorities should take the necessary measures, especially the ban on Internet advertising that supports the health of e-cigarettes. In addition, the place of sale should be identified and deterrent penalties imposed.
Murat Emir also asked the Trade Ministry the following questions:
How to clear the customs of electronic cigarette products prohibited from import and sale?
What checks have been carried out on e-cigarette imports in 2022?
Did the inspection result in sanctions against e-commerce companies?
If implemented, which company will be fined how much?
