According to Venezuelanews, a “Vaper Cancer Flavour” recently launched by the Spanish Association against Cancer aims to make people aware of the serious health consequences of using e-cigarettes.
The device mimics the packaging of e-cigarettes, but the printed text warns people to prevent cancer caused by smoking. The campaign is particularly aimed at young people and heavy Internet users, who are the most frequent users of e-cigarettes.
Before launching the campaign, the Spanish Association Against Cancer and the consulting firm studied the online social platforms used by young people, and they assessed the impact of “Internet celebrities” on the smoking behavior of young Spaniards. For the study, they reviewed the profiles of 450 Spanish-speaking “influencers” – people from the world of gaming or TV personalities who are active on platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
The results showed that 25 percent had posted “smoking-related content” in the past six years, which means the content reached 182 million followers, according to Jorge Lopez, one of the study leaders.
These influencers are mainly concentrated in the following platforms:
YouTube: 57%;
Instagram: 25%;
TikTok: 8%.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), smoking kills more than 8 million people every year. More than 7 million of these deaths were directly caused by smoking, while 1.2 million were caused by non-smokers’ exposure to secondhand smoke. Karen Ramirez, who is in charge of prevention, stressed:
“Not vaping is a preventative measure.”
According to its website, the Spanish Association Against Cancer was founded in 1953 as a non-profit organization of patients, families, volunteers, collaborators and professionals. Earlier, two supremacists saw their anti-smoking posters near the e-cigarette exhibition venue in Spain, telling about the impact of tobacco on users.
