Apple has announced that it will hold WWDC22 on June 7, and is expected to unveil iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, among many other new operating systems. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman updated some of the hardware and software leaks today.
Gurman said Apple had a big plan to release a mixed reality headset at WWDC22, but sources say apple has changed its mind and will announce the product late this year or next year. A June rollout of mixed reality hardware is unlikely, but sources believe that the test version of iOS 16, codenamed Sydney, mentions Apple headsets, including the ability to interact with iphones.
Apple is expected to give an early preview of some of its upcoming augmented and virtual reality software. There may also be an early preview of rOS (short for Reality Operating System) for mixed reality headsets.
Gurman said iOS 16 received a notification update, but not a redesign. A redesigned iPad app switcher (the new iPadOS multitasking interface) is scheduled to arrive, and health and fitness upgrades are coming soon.
Gurman said two new Macs will be launched in the middle or early second half of this year. One of them could be the new MacBook Air 2022. Other models in the works include newer Mac Mini and 24-inch iMac models, as well as lower-end MacBook Pro to replace the aging 13-inch model. There are also new Mac Pro and iMac Pro models in the works.
