According to the official announcement of Quebec, Canada’s second largest province, the province will prohibit the sale of electronic cigarette products other than tobacco flavor (or tasteless), and prohibit the sale of bottled liquid with a liquid capacity of more than 30 ml and electronic cigarette equipment with a liquid capacity of more than 2 ml.
The policy went into effect 90 days after its release, on October 31.
The flavor ban was announced in a draft released in April. According to the Quebec e-Cigarette Rights Coalition, more than 30,000 Quebec residents have commented on the proposed ban, but the Health Ministry has reportedly not made any changes to the regulations.
Quebec, Canada’s second most populous province with 8.5 million residents, became the largest province to implement a taste ban. Four other provinces and territories – Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and the Northwest Territories – have already implemented taste bans, and Nunavut has passed a ban but has not yet set an implementation date. Three other provinces – British Columbia, Ontario and Saskatchewan – have restricted the sale of flavored products to adult-only stores like vape shops.
