Sony officially launched the Airpeak smart drone project. In January this year, the Sony Airpeak drone was unveiled at CES 2021. After a long wait, Sony officially released its first drone today Airpeak S1.
Sony Airpeak S1 is priced at US$8,999 (approximately 57,000 yuan), including two sets of propellers, a remote control, two batteries, and a battery charger. The product is expected to be available for pre-sale in September this year.
It is reported that the Sony Airpeak S1 is fully compatible with the Alpha series of full-frame mirrorless cameras. Sony said that this is the smallest drone in the industry that can be equipped with a Sony Alpha camera. It can not only make dynamic shots but also has accurate and stable flight control performance.
In terms of parameters, when equipped with a camera, the Airpeak S1 has a battery life of 12 minutes, a no-load battery life of 22 minutes, and a maximum flying speed of 90km/h, which can accelerate in 3.5 seconds.
Airpeak S1 has a maximum angular speed of 180°/s and a maximum inclination angle of 55° during flight. The maximum wind speed that can withstand normal flight is 20m/s.
In terms of configuration, Airpeak S1 is equipped with Sony’s self-developed propulsion device and flight control system. Five stereo cameras and two infrared range sensors are installed on the front, back, left, right, and bottom of the fuselage. Human-machine positioning and 3D space perception, even in areas with poor GPS signals, can achieve stable flight through IMU and sensors such as air pressure and infrared.
The fuselage is equipped with two landing gears. In order to avoid affecting the shooting effect, the landing gear can be retracted upwards during the flight.
It should be noted that the drone only supports Sony’s own cameras and camcorders. At the same time, accessories such as cameras, lenses, and pan/tilt must be purchased separately.
