Sony officially released the new FR7 movie camera system, which is Sony’s first remote-controlled pan-tilt movie camera that integrates an interchangeable lens design, a full-frame image sensor, and built-in pan/tilt/zoom functions.
According to the official introduction, FR7 has both remote control shooting function and movie-like image quality. FR7 not only brings movie-like image quality and professional control but also, with its multi-functional connectivity and efficient performance in multi-camera workflow, further Broadens the boundaries of the video production industry.
The FR7 uses a full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor with approximately 10.3 million effective pixels and supports a dynamic range of 15+ levels. It is Sony’s first PTZ camera that integrates the above functions.
It also features a wide dynamic range, full-frame textured soft background defocus, and low noise performance. The sensor also provides excellent high-sensitivity performance, with sensitivity expandable to ISO 409600 when shooting in low-light environments.
The FR7 adopts the E-mount design and supports Sony’s rich E-mount lens group, including the G Master lens series with excellent resolution and smooth bokeh performance. The selectable lens focal lengths cover 12mm to 1200mm, giving users the freedom to realize different ideas.
The FR7 supports many of the features of Sony’s cinema camera system for a great cinematic feel, including:
- – Sensitivity expandable to ISO 409600 when shooting in low light conditions.
- -15+ levels of dynamic range? Provides smooth highlights and low noise performance.
– Supports picture profile selection, including S-Cinetone for natural mid-tones, capable of reproducing natural skin tones, soft recording colors, and smooth highlights. Preset picture profiles to help the production team save more time in post-production.
In Cine EI mode, Base ISO can be set to ISO 800 or ISO 12800 to match different lighting conditions and reduce noise while maintaining the same preset. This mode supports color spaces such as Sony’s S-Log3 gamma, wide gamut S-Gamut3, and S-Gamut3. Cine, making it ideal for post-production.
- -Support 4K 120p6 upscale shooting to present the emotional expression required for a slow-motion cinematic feel.
The FR7 is specially designed with dual card slots, supports CFexpress Type A and SDXC memory cards, and can record high-quality XAVC-I format material with metadata, bringing more possibilities for video creation.

The Sony remote control pan-tilt movie camera FR7 will be available in early November 2022, with a suggested retail price of 65,000 yuan, and the FR7K (SELP28135G single-lens) set) is 82,000 yuan.
