Qualcomm would be working on the Snapdragon 8cx Plus SoC, a refresh of the Snapdragon 8cx announced in 2018 and designed specifically for laptops, in particular for the so-called Always Connected PCs.
According to some new information shared by WinFuture, the American chipmaker is working on an updated version of the 8cx. In addition, this SoC is expected to equip upcoming laptops and devices with Windows 10 on ARM.
The model code of the SC8180X chipset is associated with the 8cx. However, the German website claims that the SC8180XP code has appeared in the import and export database. This suggests that there may be an improved version of the Snapdragon 8cx of Qualcomm. It is not currently clear whether the letter P, present at the end of the code, refers to Plus.
In any case, WinFuture claims that the Qualcomm SC8180XP is an octa-core processor consisting of four Kyro 495 Gold cores (Cortex A76) clocked at 3.15 Hz and four Kryo 495 Silver cores (Cortex A55) clocked at 1.8 GHz. The SoC it will also include the Adreno 680 718 MHz graphics card that we find on the current chip.
We will have to see if there will be changes in the speed of the GPU as the American chipmaker has never revealed the clock frequency of the current Adreno 680 graphics card.
In any case, the Snapdragon 8cx Plus should offer better performance than the Microsoft SQ1, which is the slightly improved and customized version of the 8cx used on the Surface Pro X. We just have to wait for the next few weeks to see if more information will emerge.
