According to the plans of various manufacturers, starting from July this year, a large number of flagship phones will be equipped with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chips, including Xiaomi, realme, OnePlus, iQOO, Red Magic, and other machines types. At present, the Xiaomi Mi 12S series has been officially announced to be released on July 4. In addition, the realme GT2 Master Explorer Edition has been announced to be released in July.
Many people are curious about the capabilities of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. Xiaomi Lei Jun recently said, “The first generation of Snapdragon 8+, the name is too low-key, the actual experience is definitely not a “small upgrade”, you can wait for us to measure. Look at the evaluation after the production machine is released.” Looking at what Lei Jun means, the experience upgrade of the Snapdragon 8+ will be obvious.
According to Weibo blogger @Digital Chat Station, “The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 has tested three mass-produced machines, and the game power consumption and frame rate are basically smaller than that of the Dimensity 9000, and the daily fluency and temperature performance are better than those of the Snapdragon. 8 Gen 1 is so much better. Personally, TSMC wins a lot.” After the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was criticized, Qualcomm turned to TSMC’s new process to produce chips.
According to Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon8+ Gen 1 is an enhanced version of the Snapdragon 8 mobile platform. It adopts a three-cluster architecture of super-large core Cortex-X2 + large-core A710 + small-core A510, and the highest frequency of the CPU core is increased to 3.2GHz. At the same time, compared to the Snapdragon 8, the Snapdragon 8 + Gen 1 uses TSMC’s 4nm process.
However, the current comparison is the Dimensity 9000 chip, and MediaTek has launched the Dimensity 9000 + chip, which is expected to be available in Q3 this year. Previously, the first Geekbench 5 score of the Dimensity 9000+ chip was released, with a single-core score of 1,322 and a multi-core score of 4,331, which can be regarded as the strongest CPU performance in Android. Of course, it also surpassed the Geekbench 5 running score of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip engineering machine.
Dimensity 9000+ adopts TSMC’s 4nm process and Armv9 architecture. The octa-core CPU includes one Arm Cortex-X2 super core with the main frequency of up to 3.2GHz, three Arm Cortex-A710 large cores, and four Arm Cortex-A510 energy efficiency cores. The advanced CPU architecture of the Dimensity 9000+ and the Arm Mali-G710 flagship ten-core GPU have improved the CPU performance by 5% and the GPU performance by 10% compared to the previous generation.
