Apple, like it or not, launched several innovations on the market when it introduced the iPhone X, innovations that have not always been well received by the general public (such as the notch), but among which were quite interesting things like facial unlocking 3d Now it seems that Xiaomi will be the first to give the kick-off to this technology in the Android world, and it will, of course, with the Xiaomi Mi 7. Today’s report suggests that the phone has been delayed to the third quarter due to poor results with the facial recognition system.
A new report published today affirms that the first Android phone with 3D facial recognition technology will not arrive until the third quarter of 2018. The report indicates that suppliers of 3D detection modules are having problems to combine the software and hardware necessary for the technology to work.
The most advanced 3D recognition module is formed by a joint venture between Qualcomm, Himax Technologies, and Truly Optoelectronics. This system only works with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 mobile platform, which is the current high-end SoC chip maker.
Given that Samsung and Huawei prefer to use their own Exynos and Kirin chipsets in their high-end models, it is likely that neither of the two companies is among the first Android phone manufacturers to offer an Android phone equipped with 3D detection. According to the report, Samsung may not offer that feature until 2019.
Android manufacturers are interested in including a 3D facial mapping system on their phones as users can let their beards grow, wear a hat or sunglasses, or let their hair grow and the phone keeps recognizing them.
Xiaomi Mi 7
The problem with this last solution is that it only works together with the Snapdragon 845, so this technology would be limited only to the most powerful terminals of some companies. If we take into account that Samsung and Huawei are using proprietary SoCs, the truth is that few terminals will include 3D facial recognition this year, the Xiaomi Mi 7 being one of them and having to wait until 2019 to see this technology in Samsung terminals.
For now, it is difficult to know if Xiaomi will lead the “change” or if some other Chinese manufacturer will advance, so if there was little “hype” with the next Xiaomi Mi 7, this only makes it increase a little more. We remind you that the Xiaomi Mi 7 will presumably come to the market with OLED screen of 18: 9, the wireless fast charge of 7.5 w, SoC Snapdragon 845 and a battery of 4000 mAh.
