Xiaomi’s sub-brand Segway Ninebot has announced an electric scooter under the name Air T15 with a design considered futuristic and a new way of controlling the vehicle. According to the manufacturer, the new Segway Ninebot Air T15 has a number of innovative management and security features.
Unlike current models, both commands for the device to accelerate and reduce speed are controlled only with the feet.
The system uses a scheme similar to that of traditional non-motorized scooters. Thus, to accelerate, the user must push the feet and the engine of the Air T15 maintains the speed reached automatically. The same is true for braking by resting your foot on the plate above the rear wheel.
Thus the handlebars of the device are all dedicated to hold and monitor speed and autonomy on the built-in LED screen.
The control mechanism, however, is not the scooter’s only innovation. It also features a design with customizations per application. The piece has an LED strip on the front and bottom, whose color pattern can be chosen by the user by application. The proposal is that this LED also works so that the scooter is seen in dark environments.
The Air T15 has a 300 W motor, with a maximum speed of 20 km / h. In total, the battery has the capacity to offer up to 15 km of movement on a single charge. The model also has a folding system on the front wheel axle, with which it is possible to carry the part in the trunk of a car with ease.
In addition, Segway Ninebot Air T15 comes with an IPX4 waterproof rating which makes it suitable for use in the rain of course as long as visibility is okay for the rider. The scooter was produced in crowdfunding on Kickstarter and starts to be delivered now on May 19th. However, the device can now be purchased in the Chinese market for 2999 yuan(about $422).
