We recently informed you that Huawei seems to be considering changing the concept of a flexible smartphone, taking the Galaxy Fold path. Indeed, it would be a logical outcome, considering that flexible displays are not strong enough to withstand normal use and wear. Now it turns out that Samsung is playing with a solution that is similar to Mate X from Huawei.
Thanks to the new patent from Samsung at the USPTO (the United States Patent and Trademark Office), we now learn what another manufacturer’s flexible device might look like. The application was filed in 2017 and it was not published until May 28, 2019. Since Samsung now has the necessary basic technology, it is possible that we will at least see a prototype.
The new patent shows a device that could be called the Samsung Galaxy Fold Edge. As can be seen from the drawing, the device has a slanted display on the sides so that, when folded, it creates an imaginary impression that the display panel is all around.
In addition, it appears that such a mobile / tablet could offer cameras placed in the cutout. Since there are no other camera locations in the picture, we might consider this concept to be a “break” tablet.
The patent further states that a flash and heart rate monitor has been added. The speaker and some sensors are placed on top of the phone. At the bottom, there is a microphone on the left, a charging port on the right, and 3.5mm headphone jack is missing.
Of course, the question is whether we can see such a thing when we consider that Samsung has complications with his first flexible device.
