iGeekphone July 24 news, science and technology media Android Authority published a blog post yesterday (July 23), saying that the new Samsung Galaxy series mobile phones and tablets pre-installed with One UI 6.1.1 system will prevent users from side-loading applications from unauthorized sources by default.
Brief description of authority
Igeekphone briefly introduces the relevant information about Android permissions as follows:
INSTALL_PACKAGES
Technically, Android has blocked side-loading by default at the operating system level. INSTALL_PACKAGES permissions (silent installation of a new App without prompting the user) are granted only to the app Store pre-installed on the phone (such as the Play Store, or the manufacturer’s app store) and are automatically granted to applications that request them.
Most third-party app stores use the REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES permission, which requires explicit user authorization during application installation. Every time an app with this permission tries to install a new app, Android prompts the user.
Auto Blocker function
Samsung debuted the Auto Blocker feature in One UI 6.0 to completely block the installation of unauthorized apps, even if the app has been granted REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES permissions.
With Auto Blocker enabled on Samsung phones, users can only install and update apps through the Google Play App Store and the Samsung Galaxy App Store.
In the Samsung One UI 6.0 system, Auto Blocker is optional and is not enabled by default. Users can open the Settings app and manually enable Auto Blocker in Security and Privacy.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6, which come preloaded with the One UI 6.1.1 update, already have Auto Blocker enabled by default, though users can turn off the option to continue side-loading apps.
If you upgrade One UI 6.1.1, the original Settings will be retained and disabled by default.
