Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 was listed last month, but industry observers are already trying to uncover the secrets of its successor. South Korean media The Elec quoted UBI Research’s latest report that Samsung is currently considering using AES (Active Electrostatic Solution) digital technology to bring the S Pen into the next Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. At the same time, it is said that the company is still trying to make UTG (ultra-thin glass) thick enough to withstand the pressure of the S Pen’s nib.
This may not be the first time that Samsung has heard rumors that Samsung wants to bring the S Pen into its foldable phone. Previously, it was rumored that Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be equipped with S Pen, but it is said that due to technical limitations, Samsung cannot make this vision a reality.
First, Samsung’s Galaxy Note series uses S Pen’s EMR (Electromagnetic Resonance) technology, but the same technology is too rigid for a foldable screen. Secondly, it is said that Samsung decided not to equip the Galaxy Z Fold 2 with the S Pen because the UTG layer is not thick enough to withstand the tip of the stylus.
UBI Research believes that Samsung is now seeking to solve these problems for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3. The company may not be able to apply EMR digitizers to foldable panels, but it may decide to use AES technology instead.
Both technologies have their own advantages and disadvantages, but AES usually provides better overall performance at the expense of production costs. More importantly, AES may allow Samsung’s foldable screen phones to use S Pen.
According to reports, another area Samsung is seeking to improve is ultra-thin glass. The foldable display of Galaxy Z Fold 2 has a layer of 30-micron UTG, which is too easily damaged by the tip of the S Pen. However, it is said that the company is working to double the thickness of the UTG layer for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 to allow the use of S Pen.

Of course, it is too early to determine the authenticity of these rumors. Even if Samsung considers adding the S Pen to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, many things may change before the mobile phone enters mass production. Stay tuned with iGeekphone will post every update.
