After a string of rumors and leaks, Samsung has officially unveiled a 5G version of its Galaxy Z Flip foldable phone. It was named simply Galaxy Z Flip 5G and, in addition to supporting new generation networks, is almost identical to the original model. Major changes include a 5G modem, Snapdragon 865 + processor, and a $1449.99 price tag. That’s $70 more than the 4G version.
Not only 5G though, because the 5G version of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip also integrates an upgrade of the SoC, which in this case is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ (64-bit 7nm octa-core clocked at 3.09 + 2, 4 + 1.8 GHz), accompanied by the “usual” 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory UFS 3.0 (not expandable). It is the first device in the range to include the Snapdragon 865+ platform.
The display is certainly one of the strengths of Galaxy Z Flip 5G: in fact, we find an Infinity Flex Display 21.9: 9 Dynamic AMOLED from 6.7 inches to Full-resolution -HD + (1080 x 2636 pixels for 425 ppi) foldable, coupled with a 1.1-inch Super AMOLED secondary display (300 x 112 pixels for 303 ppi).
As for the photographic sector, we find onboard a dual rear camera with a 12MP main sensor (Dual Pixel AF, OIS, f / 1.8, 1.4 μm and 78 ° FOV) and a 12MP ultra-wide angle sensor ( f / 2.2, 1.12 μm and 123 ° of FOV). Videos can be recorded with HDR10 + support, and digital zoom reach up to 8x. On the front, there is instead a single 10MP camera for selfies, with f / 2.4 aperture, 1.22 μm pixels, and 80 ° FOV.
We close with the indications on the battery, a 3300mAh unit with support for Quick Charge 2.0, wireless charging compatible with Wireless PowerShare (for battery sharing), AKG-optimized stereo speakers, the Android 10 operating system with the One UI 2.0 user interface, and WiFi connectivity 802.11ax + Bluetooth 5.0 with NFC.
The dimensions of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G are 73.6 x 87.4 x 17.4 / 15.4 mm (hinge / thinner part) when closed, and 73.6 x 167.3 x 7.2 mm – 6.9 mm (screen) when open, with a weight of 183 grams.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5G is also special thanks to the bronze color, and everything suggests that it will also be available in the next tops of the Galaxy Note 20 series. In the US, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G should arrive in both carrier-specific and unlocked versions starting August 7th. It will be available through AT&T and T-Mobile, as well as Samsung’s website, Best Buy, and Amazon.
