Samsung recently hosted an exclusive launch event in Seoul, South Korea, where they unveiled their latest innovation, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, featuring impressive folding screen technology.
The device maintains its signature small folding design, allowing it to be delicately folded in half, which has garnered significant popularity among female users. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 showcases substantial changes in its appearance. Compared to its predecessors, the secondary screen on the back has undergone a significant upgrade, covering most of the rear shell, resembling the shape of a “folder.”
The back screen boasts a size of 3.4 inches with a resolution of 720*748 and supports a 60Hz refresh rate, offering a better preview of the shooting screen. The introduction of AI technology enhances the photography experience, automatically identifying subjects in the viewfinder and switching between different cameras for optimal shots. The anti-shake function has also improved, and the outer screen and protective shell offer more personalized options.
The main screen, a central perforated 6.7-inch display with a resolution of 2640*1080 and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, brings stunning visuals and smooth performance. In terms of durability, Samsung continues to excel, as both the front and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Victus 2 glass, and the phone is IPX8 waterproof certified, solidifying its position as a leader in the folding screen phone category.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy powers the device, also known as the “chicken blood version,” ensuring top-notch performance. Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the 12-megapixel primary camera and 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens on the rear, and the 10-megapixel front camera for capturing stunning selfies.
The phone houses a 3700mAh battery, supporting 25W wired fast charging, and an impressive 15W wireless charging feature, a rarity in the industry. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 supports nano SIM card slot + eSIM combinations among its various components. It includes side fingerprint recognition and comes pre-installed with the latest One UI 5.1.1, based on Android 13.
Regarding pricing, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 starts at US$999, or approximately RMB 7,146. Customers can choose from four color options: mint, graphite, cream, and lavender, and it will be available for purchase overseas from August 11.
For the Chinese market, the Bank of China pioneer plan has announced two variants: 8G+256GB priced at 8499 yuan and 8G+512GB priced at 9499 yuan. The official price will be disclosed at the Bank of China press conference, and Samsung Mall will offer exclusive color choices as per usual practice.
