Just a few weeks ago the news emerged that reported that the Galaxy S10 would have a fingerprint reader on screen, even the cheapest model. Now, new information ensures that Samsung will include the most advanced fingerprint reader in the world in the terminal.
As reported by ETNews, the company is expected to supply ultrasound-based fingerprint recognition modules to the Samsung Galaxy S10. General Interface Solutions (GIS) plans to provide these modules to the brand, a built-in product that mounts under the screen and that is not visible from the outside.
The information suggests that it is a third generation ultrasound technology developed by Qualcomm, which since 2015 has an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. Over the years, Qualcomm has developed a third generation sensor that will use the Galaxy S10 and that would be able to measure blood pressure and heart rate.
Unlock the phone underwater
The third generation developed by Qualcomm will allow working through thicker layers, so the quality and performance of the screen will remain intact compared to other fingerprint scanning solutions. The fingerprint reader would also allow unlocking the terminal with a wet finger or directly underwater.
Ultrasonic fingerprint recognition technology is a technology that differentiates the shapes and characteristics of fingerprints by changing the position and intensity of the ultrasonic waves that are transmitted. In addition, this sensor can also operate from the back of the panel.
It is reported that Qualcomm’s second-generation sensor can work accurately through glass with a thickness of 800 microns (0.8 mm), while the first generation is 300 microns (0.3 mm). This sensor may be manufactured by GIS in Taiwan and O-film Tech in mainland China.
Samsung has been studying fingerprint recognition technology since it planned the launch of the Galaxy S8, so it is not surprising that this technology has improved to offer new features that will facilitate the use of the terminal to the user. Everything indicates that it will be time to wait until the official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy S10 to know all the details of this new technology.
