The first generation of the flexible Samsung Galaxy Fold is not yet available, and information about the possible design of a future generation has just appeared on the Internet. This should come with a completely different type of construction. Samsung South Korea, according to the Dutch website LetsGoDigital.nl, could use the so-called “Z-design”, because the device is shaped to fold just the letter Z.
A possible form of future generations of the next smartphone with a flexible display from Samsung revealed patent application. When closed, the device resembles a classic phone, but when unfolded when the bent display is straightened in two places, you get a significantly larger area and get into tablet mode with a significantly larger screen diagonal around 10 inches. Conversely, when closed, you should have approximately 6.6 inches of the screen.
The patent application was filed by Samsung Display at the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) as early as 2018 but was not approved until 7 August this year. It contains a total of 23 patent sketches.
It is almost certain that Galaxy Fold 2 will not look like this and if “Z-Fold” ever really get mass production, it will certainly be in a few years. The patent application is filed by Samsung’s display division and the hardware itself is not solved too much – that is why the images are missing cameras and other controls.
On the other hand, next year the first smartphones with a camera hidden under the screen should appear on the market, and Samsung could use something similar to this type of device. If so, we certainly have a very futuristic future ahead.
