According to TASS news agency reported on August 8, the draft government decree banning the sale of flavoring additives used in electronic cigarette devices will be submitted to the Russian Cabinet for consideration in the near future.
The news was revealed to TASS by Artem Metelev, chairman of the Youth Policy Committee of the Russian State Duma.
Meterev said:
“At the meeting of the working group of the Russian Ministry of Health, the project on banning flavoring additives in e-cigarette additives has been discussed and will be submitted to the Russian government for consideration in the near future.”
The project aims to ban all artificial and natural fragrances and food additives, including those that contain harmful and dangerous compounds, stimulants, sweeteners, colors, and other additives that may create a false perception that nicotine-containing products are healthy or less risky.
In a press release, Meterev said:
“The Youth Policy Committee believes that all flavoring additives that can create health hazards and manipulate consumer choices should be excluded. It is clear to us that the chewing gum and candy smell of e-cigarettes is simply a trick that manufacturers use to lure children and teenagers into nicotine addiction.”
