Xiaomi is one of the best companies in many aspects in China, presenting a very big variety of mobiles with different characteristics and display dimensions. One of the latest mobiles that the company presented to us is the Xiaomi Redmi 3S, a 5inch mobile with Snapdragon 430.
Design
The Xiaomi Redmi 3S, at least for me, is one of the best-looking devices for its price category. Made from metal, with plastic replacing the aluminum at the top and bottom parts in order to help the signal reception. With a thickness of just 8.5mm and 144 grams weight, the phone feels very light. Below the screen as usually in all Xiaomi mobiles, we find capacitive touch keys, a standard microUSB port. On the back we will find the fingerprint sensor. Comes out in Silver, Gray, and Gold leaving no complaints in the design department. For display, Xiaomi Redmi 3S features a 5-inch, with 720p resolution IPS panel. The 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution fares really good for a 5inch screen, improving the sharpness. Still, due to MIUI abilities, the mobile is equipped with a night reading mode and a color temperature adjustment slider, which I must say is quite welcome. While colors appear quite cold by default (at 7942 Kelvin), the screen boasts with superb brightness properties and a very good contrast ratio.
Hardware
Xiaomi equipped Redmi 3S with a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm’s low-end Snapdragon 430 chipset, clocked to 1.4GHz. There are two version, one with 2GB of LPDDR4 RAM and one with 3GB. Both version work very good, but of course the 3GB RAM version works better. Thankfully, for general daily usage, browsing, and casual gaming the characteristics that both version have, are more than enough! The base model comes with 16GB of expandable storage, while the above-mentioned 3GB model comes with 32GB of storage.
Features
Both already mentioned version of the Xiaomi Redmi 3S are identical and support dual-SIM connectivity, although if you use a microSD card will occupy one of the available slots. The mobile also supports FM radio and infrared, which is for sure a nice add-on. For camera, Xiaomi 3S is equipped with a 13MP sensor on the back as main camera, a feature that sounds impressive, especially since it reads like a capable unit with its f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, and LED flash. Unfortunately, it cannot record 4K video, but still I believe would be too much to expect from such a mid device. On the front side we will find a 5MP selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture and 1080p video recording, more than sufficient for selfies and video chat. The Redmi 3S supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.1m and GPS on-board.
Battery
Xiaomi Redmi 3S is equipped with a massive 4100mAh battery. Paired with screen and CPU that helps the mobile, the battery has no problems lasting 13 hours and 39 minutes of constant simulated on-screen use in battery test. The Redmi 3S also features Qualcomm’s fast charging technology for users’ convenience, but the bundled charger isn’t of the fast kind. It takes 190 minutes to recharge from zero with it, which is a lot of time to wait.
Conclusion
The Xiaomi Redmi 3S is a very good mobile, with a very strong battery, a good camera and good characteristics. You can find the 3GB RAM/32GB ROM at eFOX at 164.99€ from EU Warehouse with duty free if you use our coupon code: RM3S5Y.
