On the morning of October 15, Xiaomi‘s sub-brand Redmi officially announced that it was going to cooperate with AMD and will release the new RedmiBook 14 on October 21. Today the names of processors from AMD that will be installed in new versions of laptops have become known.
In the Weibo account, Xiaomi announced the specifications of the processors of the new laptop. It will be AMD Ryzen 5 3500U and Ryzen 7 3700U. They are made according to the 12-nm process technology, and 4-cores are distributed over 8 threads.
The AMD R5 3500U processor is limited by the maximum power consumption limit. When the laptop is fully loaded, the clock speed of the processor and graphics core will decrease, but the Ryzen 7 3700U does not have such a limitation. In 7-ka, the performance of the processor and the GPU can be increased simultaneously. Having received such “hot news”, the announced Redmibook is simply obliged to have the best heat dissipation characteristics.
The maximum frequency of the AMD R5 3500U reaches 3.7 GHz and is supplemented by an integrated graphics processor Vega 8, which has almost identical performance capabilities when compared with similar Intel products. Its performance is comparable to the discrete graphics of an entry-level laptop. In other words, the AMD R5 3500U has better gaming performance and a lower price than comparable Intel processors with the same computing performance.
On the other hand, the Ryzen 7 3700U comes with a quad-core APU using AMD Zen + cores. It has a maximum clock frequency of 4 GHz and a Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics card with 10 CU (640 shaders) and a clock frequency of up to 1400 MHz.
Currently, laptops with AMD R5 3500U processors are generally sold in China for more than 3500 yuan ($494). A new Redmibook equipped with a similar processor is expected to cost less than $500.
