Redmi Pad launched its first tablet last year, focusing on entry-level tablets. It has given a passing answer in terms of battery life and workmanship. Some users don’t actually need powerful configurations. It’s best to be able to meet their needs for online classes and watching TV shows within a limited budget. It’s best to be able to take into account certain gaming needs. After a year, Redmi Pad has now launched its successor-Redmi Pad SE. Although the name sounds very “youthful”, in fact, from the perspective of positioning, these two products actually belong to the same level.
Design and Screen
Redmi Pad SE is equipped with an 11-inch large LCD screen with high eye protection, resolution of 1920×1200, 16:10 display ratio, 90Hz refresh rate, 1500:1 contrast ratio, screen brightness of up to 400nit, and the surface is covered with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Although it is an entry-level tablet, this tablet has obtained Rheinland low blue light and flicker-free dual certifications and adopts a full DC dimming solution to ensure better eye protection for daily use.
The overall size is 255.53×167.08×7.36mm, and it weighs only 478g, which is still very easy to hold with both hands. What we received is the smoky green color version. The whole machine adopts a breakpoint-free metal body design. Compared with the conventional splicing design at the same price, the advantage is that it has a stronger sense of integration and can also bring excellent texture.
In addition, it has passed a total of 30 multi-dimensional reliability tests such as drop, extrusion, twisting, vibration, harsh environment, and attachment durability. It is not afraid of being broken even if it is used by children on a daily basis.
There is an 8-megapixel rear camera in the upper left corner of the back, which can meet the daily use needs of users. Top and bottom details, in addition to the regular USB-C interface, the Redmi Pad SE is also equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
In terms of speakers, the Redmi Pad SE is equipped with symmetrical stereo four speakers and supports Dolby Atmos. Some details of the Redmi Pad SE include volume keys on the left middle frame and a MicroSD card slot that can expand storage space up to 1TB. The package comes with card pins, data cables, a 10W charger, and manual accessories.
Special functions
Quick split screen
Although it is mainly an entry-level tablet, the Redmi Pad SE also supports the free split-screen function. It can support up to 3 windows (2 split screens + 1 floating window). It can be used for daily viewing and chatting, and can even be used during online classes. Record key points while listening, avoiding jumping back and forth, saving worry and effort in use, and bringing a more comfortable experience.
Moreover, even if the APP does not actively adapt, it cleverly uses the split-screen form to solve the compatibility of the APP, avoid wasting screen space, and maximize the use of the 11-inch large screen of Redmi Pad SE.
Children’s space
What is different from ordinary tablets is that the Redmi Pad SE has a built-in children’s space, and the interface is not complicated, which eliminates to the greatest extent the channels for children to be exposed to harmful information when using the tablet.
In this interface, the colorful pictures are more likely to arouse children’s interest, and the experience is also very friendly. It can be subdivided into multiple projects such as interactive, film and television, picture books, etc., which can meet the multiple needs of children using tablets to watch movies, learn, etc.
The eye protection mode is enabled by default in the children’s mode and supports the screen distance detection function to remind children to protect their eyesight, avoid vision loss caused by children’s unrestrained use of tablets, and allow children to use tablets scientifically.
In addition, Redmi Pad SE supports parents in limiting the apps, functions, usage time, content, etc. used by children.
The usage time is subdivided into working days and holidays, and the duration of each use and rest interval can be controlled. The choice lies with the parents. At the same time, Redmi Pad SE also has a built-in Hong En Little Painter, which can stimulate children’s interest in painting. It is not difficult to get started. Users who purchase the phone will receive 30 days of VIP rights after logging in, which is very worth trying.
Performance and Gaming
The configuration of the Redmi Pad SE uses the Snapdragon 680 processor + LPDDR4X RAM + eMMc 5.1 specifications. We tested the 6GB + 128GB version.
The Snapdragon 680 uses TSMC’s 6nm process technology and has a 4+4 large and small core architecture, four A73 large cores at 2.4GHz + four A53 small cores at 1.8GHz, and the GPU is Adreno610.
The total AnTuTu score is 298062, the CPU is 103761, the GPU is 40230, the memory is 77263, and the UX is 76808. (PS: The AnTuTu 3D Lite used in the test has no direct comparison value with the regular version). What is more eye-catching is the temperature. Although it gradually increased during the entire test, the highest was only 32.2°C.
In the GeekBench 6 unidirectional CPU test, the single-core score was 416 and the multi-core score was 1437. AndroBench measured the sequential read and write performance of 311MB/s and 250MB/s for eMMc 5.1 flash memory.
According to the results obtained through the above test software, in theory, Redmi Pad SE can cope with daily use of surfing the Internet, and watching TV series, and can also cope with some games that do not have such high graphics rendering pressure.
Game testing
For the game part, we still use our old friend “Genshin Impact”, but due to hardware limitations, extremely high image quality is still difficult for the Snapdragon 680. We used the default low image quality and 60 FPS to see how good the Redmi Pad SE is.
Judging from the results, under the default low image quality + 60 FPS conditions, it reached a level that can operate stably. It maintained the 30 FPS curve for the entire 10 minutes, and there was no frame drop problem. The average frame rate was finally measured. is 33.3 FPS.
In other words, the Redmi Pad SE can play “QQ Speed” and “Honor of Kings” which do not have high load requirements.
During the game, the average power consumption of the Redmi Pad SE was measured to be around 6.3W, which is not high in the tablet category.
PS: This power consumption is the power consumption of the entire tablet, not the power consumption of the chip alone.
In terms of temperature performance, thanks to the large 11-inch area of the Redmi Pad SE, it can effectively dissipate heat. The chip area on the back is only 40°C, and the holding areas on the left and right sides are only 35°C, ensuring long-term holding. There will be no problem of hot hands.
Battery
Charging test
Redmi Pad SE has a built-in 8000mAh large battery and the official claims that the effective capacity is still above 80% after 1000 cycles. Compared with mainstream-level tablets that only have 5000mAh, it can be expected that this tablet will have excellent battery life with the Snapdragon 680. We actually measured the charging speed of the Redmi Pad SE, starting from 5%, charging to 30% in half an hour, charging to 54% in 1 hour, and fully charging in 2 and a half hours.
Endurance test
For the battery life, we use the professional battery life testing tool – Battery Dog produced by Kuai Technology for testing.
For the test items, we chose the extreme battery life test and checked all test items including CPU high voltage, CPU multi-threading, AI recognition, picture browsing, video playback, and web browsing to simulate user usage scenarios and restore the real load to the greatest extent. Infinitely close to the real power consumption situation. During the test, adjust the brightness to 50%, turn off the automatic brightness, and exit the irrelevant background.
By consuming power from 100% to 26%, the Redmi Pad SE can achieve 9 hours and 51 minutes of battery life.
Converted, that is to say, it can provide more than 13 hours of use when fully charged, which is a relatively good level for thousand-yuan tablets.
Verdict
From the specification point of view, this Redmi Pad SE continues the excellent workmanship of the previous generation. At a price of 1,000 yuan, it has 11 inches + stereo four speakers for audio and video. It is difficult to find a better tablet at the same price.
With a relatively limited budget, we naturally cannot expect its performance to be as good as that of flagship products to meet the needs of daily use. In addition, it has a very high-quality metal body design with no breakpoints on the back. There is really no better product in its category. Good product too.
We actually measured the performance of “Genshin Impact” with the default image quality + 60 FPS. It can reach the level of 33.3 FPS, and the temperature is only 40°C.
With such results, the performance of games such as “QQ Speed” and “Honor of Kings” that do not require high screen load will be smoother than the hardware killer “Genshin Impact”.
It’s a pity that the charging speed is mediocre, but its battery life is very impressive. It can achieve more than 13 hours of battery life. According to the heavy usage habits of ordinary users, it can easily be used for two or three days without any problem.
It is worth noting that in order to extend the use time of the tablet, Redmi Pad SE has added deep sleep support. By automatically sensing the user’s usage habits, it intelligently enters deep sleep mode without any sense, and can achieve ultra-long standby of up to 73.2 days at most. Allow users to pick it up and use it at any time.
If your requirements are not high and are only used for light entertainment such as online classes and watching videos, then I think this Redmi Pad SE, which has excellent workmanship and long battery life, should be your best choice in the thousand yuan price range. Good choice.
