Design
The Realme GT Neo 2 is large, stable, and modern. The design is generic, but for the daring, there is a very eye-catching green variant. However, we would have preferred the model to stand out with functionality. It lacks a headphone jack, microSD card reader, wireless charging, and a waterproof design. The Realme GT Neo 2 measures 163 x 74 x 8.4 millimeters and weighs 205 grams. At 6.6 inches it’s quite large, but I can still use it relatively well with one hand. There is one noticeable flaw on the exterior of the Realme GT Neo 2, and that is the matt painted plastic frame.
The material itself wouldn’t be a problem, but it doesn’t look particularly high quality. Otherwise, there is absolutely nothing to complain about and a premium impression emerges. The Realme GT Neo2 comes with a pre-applied protective film. In addition to the usual laptop, the box also contains the 65-watt Super Dart power supply, a USB-A to USB-C cable, and a matte gray silicone cover. The protective cover weighs 18.6 g and is not too thick. The edges overlap and protect the screen. The silicone cover is also flush with the camera.
Display
The AMOLED screen measures 6.62 inches and has a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400. It gives a similar pixel density as several competitors but noticeably poorer detail than the best on the market. The screen also impresses with support for 120 Hz and HDR10 +. It is bright, with a measured maximum brightness of 822 nits and 1,141 nits with HDR material.
Hardware
The Realme GT Neo 2 offers Qualcomm’s current high-end processor for the upper mid-range. This is a faster Snapdragon 865, clocked at 3.2 GHz with the Prime Cortex X1 core. It is joined in the octa-core by three A77 cores at 2.42 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores up to 1.8 GHz. Thanks to the 7nm process, the Snapdragon 870 also works efficiently. The Adreno 650 at 670 MHz is integrated as a GPU. The Realme GT Neo 2 comes to the market in two storage variants: with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage space as well as in the large version with 12/256 GB,
Connectivity
The smartphone got full connectivity. As owners, you can look forward to supporting fast data in the LTE network, or even faster in 5G networks. The phone has a slot for two nano-SIM cards. It also got on Wi-Fi 6. There is also Bluetooth in version 5.1. Of course, there is NFC and the possibility of contactless payments through Google Pay.
Battery
The 5000mAh battery used here also meets these requirements, although it is no longer really exotic in modern smartphones. 88 hours of music, 33 hours of telephony and 24 hours of video, eight gaming hours are still respectable figures. What is really impressive, however, is that the mobile phone can be recharged in just 36 minutes with the help of the 65-watt SuperDart power supply unit.
Cameras
Realme focuses on the performance of the GT Neo 2. The camera, on the other hand, is good, but not a strong point. We have the typical triple camera on the back, consisting of a powerful 64 Mpx main sensor, but without OIS, a mediocre 8 Mpx ultra-wide-angle camera, and an unnecessary 2 Mpx macro sensor. The front camera is taken from the Realme GT with Snapdragon 888 and the selfies are also taken with 16MP in the GT Neo2.
As usual, auto HDR mode and AI mode are available to enhance the picture. The camera app is purposefully designed and offers the usual modes: normal, 64MP, night, portrait and video. There is also an extended Pro mode, slow motion, time-lapse, panorama, ultra macro, and text or document scanner.
The Realme GT Neo 2 takes 16MP images at 4608 x 3456 pixels via pixel binning. Thanks to the high resolution, many details can be captured and it is also possible to digitally zoom in on the images without the structures becoming blurred. However, the background begins to fade a bit in the distance. Towards the edges, however, the 64MP sensor is starting to get a bit noisy. The GT Neo 2 creates vivid and attractive images with its very vivid colors. While this makes photos look great, they quickly appear a bit too unrealistic.
OS
The Realme Neo 2 uses its own UI 2.0 user interface based on Android 11. Everything here is above criticism. The respectably large smartphone can be operated quickly, clearly, individually, and extremely smooth. There is also the prospect that an update to Android 12 will be possible as soon as it becomes available. That’s how it should be for a flagship.
Verdict
The Realme GT Neo 2 is surely one of the most attractive of the GT family. In addition to a refreshing design, it benefits from good battery life, fast charging, and excellent screen quality. At this price level, the relative weakness of the photographic part remains forgivable.
