Meta’s Oculus Quest 2 headset appears to be launching a Pro version instead of the next-generation Oculus Quest 3.
Ming-Chi Kuo said that the Oculus Quest 2 Pro will have a better design and immersive experience, equipped with two 2.48-inch mini-LED displays with a resolution of 2160×2160.
In addition, Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the Oculus Quest 2 Pro (Oculus Quest 3) will be equipped with a 2P Pancake lens that supports facial expression recognition and will be released in the second quarter of 2022.
Meta’s Oculus Quest 2 headset, the top product in the VR headset field, accounted for nearly half of the Steam hardware statistics.
The Oculus Quest 2, released in September 2021, uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 chip, supplemented by 6GB of memory, a big improvement over the previous generation. The chip will power a brand new LCD display with a single eye resolution of 1832×1920 and support for a 90Hz refresh rate. At the same time, the Quest 2 also gets a new ergonomic handle and better battery life.
In November 2021, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon said at the company’s 2021 “Investor Day” that Meta has sold 10 million virtual reality (VR) headsets, the Oculus Quest 2.
