Qualcomm has announced the launch of its latest flagship XR platform, the first-generation Snapdragon XR2 + platform, to help next-generation mixed reality (MR) and virtual reality (VR) terminals achieve power and heat dissipation performance improvements. Compared with the Snapdragon XR2 platform, the Snapdragon XR2 + achieves a 50% increase in battery life and a 30% increase in heat dissipation, enabling a richer immersive metauniverse experience in a smaller and lighter device shape.
At present, Snapdragon XR platform has enabled more than 60 XR terminals worldwide. Several Oems have planned to launch commercial terminals powered by the Snapdragon XR2 + platform, which is expected to be available by the end of 2022. Igeekphone has learned that Meta Quest Pro is the first product to use Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1.
The features of the first-generation Snapdragon XR2 + platform are as follows:
New Platform Suite: The new platform configuration supports better heat dissipation, resulting in significant performance improvements. The platform achieves a 50% increase in endurance performance and a 30% increase in heat dissipation. This enables the platform to support more concurrent multimedia processing and sensing techniques to enable full-sensory interactions, such as the creation of lifelike expressions in the metaverse, without sacrificing terminal shape design.
Vivid MR Experience: Snapdragon XR2 + platform introduces a new image processing pipeline that can achieve latency of less than 10ms, enabling excellent full-color video perspective MR Experience. The platform supports parallel sensing technologies, including head, gesture and handle tracking, 3D reconstruction, and low-latency video perspective. The seven-way parallel camera enables the integration of the real and virtual worlds into the full range of MR Experiences through video perspective, precise motion tracking, and automated indoor map construction. At the same time, the platform’s high pixel density enables PC-level virtual landscapes and the ability to support multiple sensors and cameras simultaneously to give more realistic virtual characters detailed facial expressions.
