The first OPPO smartwatch is shown in some official images, released by the Vice President of the company Brian Shen. The Chinese manufacturer had confirmed that he was working on this new product category as early as December during the INNO Day without giving further details.
The post published on Weibo, on the other hand, reveals to us what is the design that the manufacturer has decided to adopt. Needless to hide that the lines are very reminiscent of those of Apple Watch, a device that continues to score important results.
The device will have a square screen with curved edges, as rumored in recent days. On the side, two separate buttons appear. Between the two, there is a hole that could be a microphone. The hypothesis, therefore, is that you can make phone calls without having to use your smartphone. If so, it remains to be seen whether the OPPO smartwatch will support SIMs (perhaps eSIM) or if the connection will only be guaranteed by Bluetooth to keep costs down.
The images, as well as the post, unfortunately, do not provide other interesting details. In recent days, a Chinese leaker had declared that the smartwatch would be able to perform a sort of electrocardiogram (ECG) just like Apple Watch Series 4 and Series 5. The post, however, was immediately deleted. Therefore, the rumor seems absolutely unfounded.
The real needle of the balance could be the selling price which – as per tradition – could be competitive, perhaps clashing with Amazfit devices. The OPPO smartwatch is expected to debut by the first quarter of 2020 and the publication of a first official image suggests that the launch is imminent. It is not excluded that it may already appear at the Mobile World Congress 2020 in late February. We’ll see.
