In May, OPPO spoiled the arrival of a smartwatch during the Reno 6 launch event in China. Several details of the OPPO Watch 2 had also appeared on Weibo around the same time. Today, the company released a teaser revealing that the product in question will be announced at 3:00 pm (local time) on July 27 in China.
The poster reveals nothing about the specs and features of the new gadget. In May, XDA developers revealed that model numbers such as OW20W3 and OW20W1 belonged to the 46mm edition of OPPO Watch 2. They also said the 46mm variant would come in three colors: Dust Gray, Mine Shaft, and Steel Blue.
The portal also stated that the model number OP20W2 belonged to the smaller 42mm variant. This model is expected to arrive in colors like Mine Shaft, Gold Sand, Water Leaf, and Matisse. Last year’s OPPO Watch was the company’s first device in the industry. It was powered by the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip and ran on Wear OS in global markets. In China, it came with the ColorOS.
As for the Watch 2 should arrive with the latest Snapdragon Wear 4100 SoC and an Apollo 4 secondary chip. While its global version is likely to run on Google’s new Wear OS, its Chinese edition could run on an operating system based on Android 8.1. The Watch 2 will offer up to 16GB of native storage, which is double that of the previous model.
The Watch 2 is likely to sport a square-shaped dial, just like its predecessor. It should offer extra features such as new watch faces, a stress detection function, a new OPPO Relax app, and support for LTE via e-SIM. The company is also rumored to be working on a wearable called OPPO Watch Free, but not much is known about it.
