The OnePlus 5T is a smartphone that made a good first impression on Benny. Despite the high-end specifications, the OnePlus 5T is currently able to stream content from Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies and TV Shows as well as Netflix to SD only. This is somewhat surprising in such a potent device with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and 6 GB of Ram Memory. The reason is that the OnePlus 5T currently does without the necessary DRM support.
Thus, Widevine Level 1 DRM is necessary for HD streams to work on mobile devices with the mentioned providers. Unfortunately, the OnePlus 5T currently remains at Widevine Level 3. That’s why SD streams are the highest of emotions. Incidentally, this shortcoming not only affects the OnePlus 5T, but unfortunately also its predecessor – the OnePlus 5.
The recently launched OP 5T smartphone comes with a 6-inch Full HD+ display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The configuration is more than enough to support HD streaming and the lack of support for HD streaming is an odd omission. It’s quite confusing as the Widevine website says that “Google does not assess license fees for the Widevine product”

Speakers from OnePlus have confirmed the problem. Support for Widevine Level 1 but soon you want to submit an update. So a solution is coming up. Strange is only that the compatibility was not already given ex-factory. Because that could have been expected. A timetable for the update is still missing. Anyone who has a OnePlus 5 or Oneplus 5T and hopes to retrieve HD streams via Amazon Prime Video, Netflix or Google Play Movies & TV Series can only be patient.
