For the first time in its history, OnePlus decided to unveil the design of the new flagship before the official presentation. It’s “something we’ve never done before,” says Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, on the brand’s official forum. We had already discovered the OnePlus 7T design thanks to several leaks. Remember: the look of the flagship had already appeared briefly on the web last December in a stolen photo taken at the premises of OnePlus.
As we already knew, the OnePlus 7T standard is equipped with a triple rear photo sensor arranged in a rounded shape. According to the Chinese firm, this particular design was not chosen at random. “When you look at the back of a phone, the camera may be the first thing that catches your eye,” says Pete Lau.
The leader is not wrong. The arrangement of photosensors is an essential element of the visual identity of a smartphone. It is thanks to their triple square sensor that the Huawei Mate 20 stood out from the competition last year.
“We have completely redesigned the camera case for our next product. The camera must make a bold visual statement, but must also naturally follow the general design for a consistent appearance, ” says the CEO. With this in mind, OnePlus has opted for a “circular case” . Before making its choice, the group claims to have tested more than 50 different configurations.
The OnePlus 7T’s circular photosensor is original but not revolutionary. OnePlus is indeed not the first manufacturer to opt for a rounded layout. This is the hallmark of Motorola’s smartphones, including the Moto G7 Plus. According to the latest leaks, Huawei will also equip its Mate 30 with a very similar circular camera. As a reminder, OnePlus will launch the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro on October 10, 2019, in Europe.
