Late last month, OnePlus launched its flagship OnePlus 6T flagship event in India. Compared with previous predecessors, this handset has a much larger display area thanks to the use of a “water droplet” design, with notch made very small and just enough to place the camera selfie. Now OnePlus 7 gets the same treatment, courtesy of Techconfigurations which a concept creator. So, let’s see what he did it.
Thanks to the “Sliding Design”, this handset will bring the display ratio to a massive front end, up to about 98%. Like its predecessor, OnePlus will be equipped with 6.5 inches Optic AMOLED screen with Full HD + resolution. Therefore, it will also be integrated fingerprint sensor technology under the screen.
They even threw in a Penta camera for good measure, but not in the way you think. It’s only a “Penta” if you combine the 3 back cameras and the two front cameras, which is a rather typical setup nowadays. Rumors even mentioned a triple camera for the OnePlus 6T for a long while, but OnePlus bailed at the last moment with a dual camera and some software upgrades from the OnePlus 6.
On the back, OnePlus 7 has the same design as the predecessor OnePlus 6T. However, it will have a third camera sensor placed under the dual camera cluster and OnePlus logo. This suggests that OnePlus 7 could be the company’s first smartphone equipped with up to three cameras on the back.
The new OnePlus 7 will come with a 4000mAh battery, a dual 16MP+12MP selfie camera on the front and a 16MP + 20MP + 16MP camera with 4K slow-motion video on the back. In addition, this phone will also support the 5G network connection.
I find it too much trouble to create a moving part for a phone just to integrate a double selfie camera and also make the bezels slimmer. A sliding part could break down with long use, malfunction, get lint stuck in it, or get broken by mistake. Yes, I know it’s cool to slide it out and all, but is it? Various bend tests have shown that such devices are always more vulnerable than regular ones.
This concept creates a pretty premium version of the OnePlus 7, but I feel that the time of sliding devices has passed and we’re entering the screen cutout phase. A recent report has revealed that OnePlus’s upcoming 5G smartphone may not be OnePlus 7 and it will be part of the company’s new series. OnePlus Smartphone 5G will be available at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February 2019.
