There are a lot of factors to affect users’ experience, such as performance and battery life. Oneplus 5 uses Snapdragon 835 Octa core processor, it has RAM 6GB/8GB LPDDR4X, so its performance can be powerful without any doubt. However, Oneplus 5 only has 3,300mAh battery, which has been reduced compared with Oneplus 3T with 3,400mAh battery. So will Oneplus 5 still have good battery life? Today we will make the test about its battery and power efficiency.
Right now we test it according to users’ daily habits such as reading news, watching videos, playing games, and standby. According to test result, by recording automatically on the background on smartphone apps, taking games projects as example, if there is 80% power at first, when it is down to 79%, then start to count the time when apps turn on automatically. You can play games, when it is down to 69%, and then automatically calculate the time to play games every 1%. During all tests including standby, launching WIFI, GPS, automatic brightness, test every project in many times, and choose the stable average value.
In addition, Oneplus 5 and Xiaomi MI6 both test the game, ‘King of Glory’, but the Oneplus 3T data is from earlier test, it tests the game ‘Riptide GP 2’ , therefore, about Oneplus 3T test result in game time only can take reference. The comparison of Oneplus 5 and Xiaomi MI6 will be more important.
According to test result, Oneplus 5 battery life is a little worse than Xiaomi MI6, the gap of battery life in game aspect is large which may be the reason that Oneplus 5 uses the current control solution tending to high performance, but compared with Oneplus 3T, Oneplus 5 has its advantages in video and reading. They have not big gap between game tests.
At the aspect of standby aspect, Oneplus 5 has more advantage than Xiaomi MI6. It doesn’t happen to he issue of the fast power reduction. But compared with Oneplus 3T, it is still a little weaker. Oneplus 5 has optimization space in this aspect.
In terms of above calculation, Oneplus 5 and Oneplus 3T are similar in 24 hours mid-use to consume the power. They only have 3% gap, so you can be used to Oneplus 5 charging habit like Oneplus 3T.
Oneplus 5 charging efficiency: It only takes half hour to charge from 20% to 80%.
Snapdragon 835 can support QC4.0 quick charge, but it doesn’t use QC4.0 or QC3.0 quick charge, and still using Dash quick charge of Oneplus 3/3T, which claims to achieve 5V/4A big current charging, in theory, 20W power rate is quite big enough for a 3,300mAh battery.
Oneplus 5 uses Dash quick charge, which need to smartphone, power adapter and USB cable to achieve. Although it has nice charging speed, in compatibility, it is a little pity, after all on the current market, it is hard to buy Dash quick charge power bank.
After real test, under Dash quick charge, the output of the power adapter is 4.6V to 4.7V, the current is between 3.6A to 3.7A, and the real output power rate is 17W, considering cable material, the real power adapter of Oneplus 5 Dash quick charge should not be lower than 15W.
According to test result, Oneplus 5 takes 33 minutes to charge from 20% to 80%, which is similar to that of Oneplus 3T. Compared with Xiaomi MI6, it charges faster.
Conclusion
The battery life of Oneplus 5 is similar to Oneplus 3T, its dash quick charge is quite powerful but no so compatible. From the data above, Oneplus 5 doesn’t make big breakthrough in battery life, every aspect is similar to that of Oneplus 3T, but compared with Xiaomi MI6, it has a little gap. But in the real experience, they both can support charging once to use one day.
But in charging speed, Dash quick charge is still quite power, compared with current QC3.0, it is even better. But in terms of compatibility, it can not compete. In terms of my personal experience, if we use non-Dash quick charger, Oneplus 5 charging time will prolong one time. It may takes over one hour to charge 20% to 80%.
