On May 3rd, HMD Global, the home of Nokia phones, launched a new device – the Nokia XR21. This rugged mobile phone is the latest addition to the Nokia XR series and is an upgraded version of the Nokia XR20, with improved performance and durability. The device is priced at £499.99 and will be available for purchase in the UK from the same day.
The design of the Nokia XR21 follows its predecessor with an aluminum alloy frame and polycarbonate back cover. It is MIL-STD-810H military standard certified and has an IP69K water and dust resistance rating. This certification means that the phone can survive under high-pressure hot water jets and withstand the force of a water cannon. The Nokia XR20, on the other hand, is IP68 rated, which is still impressive but not as sturdy as the XR21.
The screen of the Nokia XR21 is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, which can resist a drop of 1.8 meters. To further ensure users’ peace of mind, HMD is also offering a one-year free screen replacement guarantee, available for purchases made in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
The Nokia XR21 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G chip, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. It boasts a 6.49-inch 120Hz refresh rate LCD screen with a resolution of FHD+ and a brightness of 500 nits. The battery capacity is 4800mAh and supports 33W wired fast charging. The phone does not support wireless charging, and there is no charger included in the box. However, HMD claims that the battery life is 60% longer than that of the Nokia XR20, and it can withstand 800 charge-discharge cycles while retaining 80% of its capacity.
The Nokia XR21’s rear camera is 64 Megapixels with an aperture of f/1.79 and a pixel size of 0.7 microns. The sub-camera is an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, and the front-facing selfie camera is 16 Megapixels. The device also features a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual stereo speakers, two physical shortcut keys, side fingerprint recognition, NFC functionality, dual card slots, and eSIM support. It comes pre-installed with the Android 12 system and promises to provide major Android version upgrades and four years of monthly security patches.
The Nokia XR21 is currently available in midnight black on the Nokia UK official website. The pine green version will be launched in June.
