On November 13, 2019, Motorola finally introduced its first foldable smartphone – Motorola Razr with a folding screen. The handset is a reinvention of one of the company’s most popular smartphones, the Razr V3. Like the original Razr V3, the new Razr is slim and compact. Its antenna has been redesigned to fit in a space half the size of today’s smartphones. It also has a coating that offers splash resistance.
The handset features a 6.2-inch folding OLED display with a resolution of 876 x 2142 and in 21: 9 format. It will fold to specific hinges for easy movement. Like many other smartphones, it will come with a notch on top.
As in its original version, the new Razr has a small 2.7 “OLED touchscreen on the outside of the device, with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. Space is reserved for displaying app notifications, SMS, call alerts and taking selfies with the device closed.
The dimensions pass from 72 x 172 x 6.9 mm to 72 x 94 x 14 mm. Inside the body – weighs a total of 205 grams – there is a component line in line with that of the mid-range terminals: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC, combined with 6GB of RAM and 128GB dedicated to storage.
The device has three cameras. One is located on the back of the phone; the second is inside and can be accessed with the device open; Interestingly, the latter is on the front, and is accessible with the smartphone closed.
The new Motorola Razr is equipped with a 2510mAh battery with 15W fast charge support with the TurboPower charger and Android operating system. Finally, the smartphone runs Android 9 Pie while most manufacturers already deploy Android 10.
At first, the Motorola Razr will be reserved for the US market. The collapsible flip-top smartphone will be sold exclusively by the American operator Verizon at a price of US$1500. For now, it is unclear whether the firm intends to market the smartphone on the French market or in other European countries.
