Qualcomm officially unveiled its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform this morning, just as MOTOROLA confirmed moto X40 will be powered by it in a press release.
MOTOROLA’s new 5G phone, the XT2301-5, has been approved for use on the network. Sources say it is the upcoming moto X40. According to the filing, the moto X40 weighs 196g and has a body size of 161.3 x 73.9 x 8.5mm. It has a 6.67 inch OLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2400. It supports 10bit color depth and fingerprint recognition under the screen. In terms of configuration, moto X40 has an internal 4950mAh / 4450mAh battery, 8GB / 12GB / 18GB RAM and 128GB / 256GB / 512GB body storage. Moto X40 has a rear 50MP+50MP+12MP triple shot combination, which is expected to be the main shot, ultra wide Angle and portrait lens respectively, and supports 4x optical zoom.
Snapdragon 8 Gen2 is made with a 4nm technology, with one Cortex-X3-based Kryo super-large core with a dominant frequency of 3.2GHz and four performance cores (2 x Cortex A715+ 2 x Cortex A710, All 2.8GHz) and three Cortex-A510 energy efficient cores (small cores, 2.0GHz). Compared with Snapdragon 8, final CPU performance is 35% higher and power consumption is 40% lower. New generation Adreno GPU, performance improved by 25%, power consumption reduced by 45%, support Vulkan 1.3 and support hardware-level ray tracing technology.
Snapdragon 8 Gen2 is integrated with the new Hexagon processor, and the tensor unit is greatly enhanced, with some scenarios boasting a 4.35-fold performance improvement. Equipped with X70 5G baseband and the new FastConnect 7800 unit, it supports 5G dual-card dual-pass (up to 10Gbps downlink), Wi-Fi 7 (up to 5.8Gbps, Double Wi-Fi 6), Bluetooth 5.3, Bluetooth LE audio, 48kHz lossless audio, spatial audio, etc.
In addition, the new sensing ISP (3 18bit) supports the latest CMOS from Samsung and SONY, with a maximum of 200 million pixels per pixel and supports up to 8K 30P or 4K 120P video shooting.

The first batch of Snapdragon 8 Gen2 will be carried by Xiaomi, Redmi, Honor, iQOO, OnePlus, OV and other manufacturers. The new phones are expected to be launched one after another from the end of 2022.
