During the Surface event of the month of October, among the various announcements, Microsoft showed Surface Duo, a mobile device with phone functionality and support for Android apps. but at the same time announced that the device would not be released until the winter holidays of 2020. However, it seems that the launch time may be closer: since the first Surface Duo was seen in public transport. Earlier, the head of Microsoft was captured with this two-screen smartphone in his hands.
The Surface Duo was spotted on a Vancouver train. The first thing you should pay attention to is the addition of a frontal front flash, which was not in the prototype presented at the Surface event. Microsoft left a single front camera and it looks like the company managed to make the device thinner than a prototype. Unfortunately, there is no image showing the back of the device, so it cannot be confirmed whether the device will have a rear camera or not.
But cameras are one of the most important parameters for smartphones today: manufacturers pay maximum attention to them. It is unlikely that the Surface Duo will be able to surpass the Apple iPhone or Google Pixel capabilities of the photo module, so the company focuses on a unique design.
The smartphone is equipped with two 5.6-inch displays that are interconnected by a hinge that allows you to rotate the device 360 degrees. In the open position, the diagonal is 8.3 inches. When folded, the Duo is compact enough to fit in your pocket. One of the displays of the smartphone can be used as a game controller or keyboard, and the second – for example, as a stand when watching the video in landscape mode.
Microsoft explained that existing Android applications and PWA will run on Surface Duo, but by default, they will only support one screen. To support both displays, you will need to make changes to the code. The Surface Duo will hit the market next to the Surface Neo in the summer of 2020, so it makes sense to see that it is already being tested in the streets to verify that everything works properly.
