This year Meizu has released many models such as Meizu M3, Meizu M3 Note, Meizu U10, Meizu U20, etc. Meilan series has become much stronger. And Meizu starts to produce its products to appeal to different kinds of people. Several days ago, Meizu also released the other model, Meizu M3 Max in Meilan series with big screen and large battery to compete with Xiaomi MI Max and other brands. So we will test it to check if it’s worthwhile to buy.
Specs
Meizu M3 Max uses 6inch FHD IPS screen, powered by Helio P10 processor, RAM 3GB ROM 64GB, 5MP front camera and 13MP back camera, 4,100mAh battery, running Flyme 5 OS based on Android6.0 OS. This kind of specs can be regarded as flagship, especially no barrier for daily use.
Design
In design, Meizu M3 Max can make us impress. It’s first time to use 6inch large screen for Meizu, it’s a little different from other Meizu smartphone which looks more square and uses the design of Meizu M3E. It has 2.5D curved glass covered, controling its black bezel well.
Meizu M3 Max 6inch 1080P screen uses LTPS display technology which looks more transparent, the brightness can reach 450 nit with excellent screen quality. The top placement is same as Meizu M3E, optical sensor, receiver and front camera line up.
At the bottom is the mTouch fingerprint scanner we are familiar with, the touching feel is good and it has done metal CNC processing.
Meizu M3 Max is made of aviation aluminum and CNC processing and other procedures.
On the top is the camera with deal LED Tone Flashlight and Meizu Logo.
Meizu M3 Max has 7.94mm thickness, CNC cutting with nice metal design. The fingerprint scanner, volume buton and ports at the bottom has been done highlight processing with second anode coloring which looks more delicate.
On the top of mid-frame is a microphone, from left to right is speaker, Micro USB port, microphone, and 3.5mm earphone jack.
On the left of mid frame is SIM card slot, and on the right is power button and volume button.
In general, Meizu M3 MAX has exquisite and good design.
Camera
About its dual camera, Meizu M3 Max uses the similar specs in camera to Meizu M3E, front 5MP camera, F2.0 aperture, supporting beautification, 69 degree viewing angle for taking selfies.
Its back camera uses IMX258 sensor which is same as Meizu M3E with 13MP back camera. It supports PDAF, 0.2s focus speed to the fastest. And it has dual LED Tone flashlight, when opening it, the picture color looks more nature. Its aperture has F2.2, 5 lens with blue glass filtering.
IMX258 sensor has 1/3.06 inch, 1.12μm pixel unit, 4224×3192 screen resolution image output to the highest. It uses Exmor RS from Sony, which has better pixels control than the traditional back sensor.
The samples are colorful and bright with high comparison rate and good focusing speed by PDAF.
In white balance, Meizu M3 MAX has cold partial sample, hope it can optimize by firmware updating.
This time Meizu M3 Max is equipped with dual LED Tone flashlight, according to the comparison pictures, it will be more natural after launching, and high brightness. And the item and background exposed in average.
IMX258 sensor has good control of pixels that makes Meizu M3 Max has high rank in the dim light, and keeps high purity under insufficient light.
OS
Meizu M3 Max runs Flyme 5.2 OS based on Android6.0 OS, which is the best OS after 5 versions update whether in its stability or fluency.
Flyme 5.2 continues the flat design language and clear but not gorgeous in color which is good for our eyes, and its icon designs in very harmonious unification.
In interaction between human and the phone, Flyme 5.2 has not much difference with customized Android ROM. mBack is the famous aspect for Meizu. It has abandoned three buttons and only Home button remained with back, homepage, and voice helper which is very practical.
mTouch fingerprint scanner can not only support unlocking the smartphone but also support alipay, wechat payment and files, apps encryption, etc.
Performance
Meizu M3 Max is powered by Helio P10 processor instead of Helio P20 rumor beforre. It uses 28nm HPC processing, HPC+ has reduced current leakage, and optimized the power consumption of Soc. compared with previous HPC.
Helio P10 uses 4×1.8GHz A53+4×1.0GHz A53 architecture, Mali-T860 MP2 GPU, in addition, it has RAM 3GB LPDDR3 933MHz, eMMC 5.1 ROM 64GB, and supports up to 128GB Micro SD card extension.
From the test result,the single core of Helio P10 is 797 scores, multi core up to 3040 scores which is better than Snapdragon 615. The 3D test score is up to 6098 of Helio P10 which complies with the market position with a good level. And in 4K reading at random of ROM, Meizu M3 Max performs commonly, which is worse than other models with eMMC 5.1. In general, Meizu M3 Max has nice performance to meet most users’ needs.
Battery
Meizu M3 Max has 4,100mAh battery, it’s not big for a 6inch smartphone. According to official, they test in 5 hours for 10 items, every item per 30 minutes, 5 hours in all, it has 57% power left. We believe it is related to Helio P10 with low power consumption and Flyme with optimization.
On the other hand, Meizu M3 Max support mCharge, 24W quick charge which is better than Meizu M3e with 18W quick charge. According to official, it can charge 45% power in 30 minutes, mCharge can smartly adjust charging state according to phone temperature, battery voltage and using environment to make it charge more safe.
Conclusion
Although the products of Meilan series become more, this Meizu M3 MAX with 6inch screen will be the best one to compete with other large screen smartphones such as Xiaomi max. In terms of its OS, battery, large screen, it can meet our daily needs adequately.
