On May 31, Mediatek introduced a new Kompanio 838 chip designed to power thin and light Chromebooks.
Compared to the previous Kompanio 500 series, the Kompanio 838 shows an amazing leap in performance. In terms of graphics processing, the performance has increased by up to 76%, ensuring that users can get a smooth and delicate visual experience when performing multimedia entertainment or high-intensity graphics applications.
In the CPU benchmark test, the chip’s performance improved by 66%, whether it is in the daily office or dealing with large files, it can easily cope. In Web benchmark tests, Kompanio 838 also achieved a performance improvement of up to 60%, making web browsing and the use of online applications smoother.
In terms of hardware configuration, the Kompanio 838 uses an advanced 6nm process to achieve a higher energy efficiency ratio. The CPU part uses a unique “2+6” two-cluster architecture, including two high-performance Arm Cortex-A78 2.6GHz cores and six energy-efficient Arm Cortex-A55v 2.0GHz cores, which is designed to ensure both excellent performance and energy efficiency.
In terms of graphics processing, the chip is equipped with a five-core Arm-Mali G57 MC3 GPU, which brings stunning visual effects to users. At the same time, the integrated AI processor NPU 650 has 4 TOPs of computing power, making multimedia content more interactive and high-quality.
Not only that, Kompanio 838 also supports LPDDR4x-3733 and DDR4-3200 memory with 64-bit bit width, as well as eMMC 5.1 storage, ensuring fast data transfer and storage.
In terms of display technology, the Kompanio 838 performs well and can support up to two 4K displays, including 4K 60Hz and 4K 30Hz, to bring users the ultimate visual enjoyment. At the same time, it also supports H.264 and HEVC (H.265) video encoding as well as H.264, HEVC, VP-9 and AV1 video decoding to meet the diverse video needs of users.
When it comes to connectivity, the Kompanio 838 also excels. It supports Wi-Fi 6/6E and 2×2 antennas at rates up to 1.9Gbps, allowing users to enjoy a fast and stable network connection.
In addition, the chip also provides PCIe x1, 1 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 external interfaces to meet the diversified expansion needs of users.
